While I was playing through the Halo 4 video game for the very first time (I can’t believe that was way back in 2012 already), there was exactly one point in the entire game when I stopped and exclaimed: “I can’t wait to own this as a Halo Mega Bloks set!” I’m referring, of course, to Halo 4 Missing 8: “Midnight”, the level featuring the Master Chief flying the UNSC Broadsword. Well, MEGA Brands will have made us wait close to two years for it, but the Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Broadsword 97830 set was on display at the New York Toy Fair 2014 and will arrive in stores in Summer 2014!

It used to be that Halo collectors looked to the McFarlane Toys Halo action figure line to give them every type of Spartan armor in action figure form, while MEGA Brands’ Halo Mega Bloks line had to play second fiddle with a more limited selection. But no longer! While the McFarlane Halo figures line is virtually dead, the Mega Bloks Halo line is going strong. And at last week’s New York Toy Fair 2014, MEGA Brands debuted two new sets filled with new Spartan armors: it’s the Halo Mega Bloks Fire Team Venom 97350 & Fire Team Crimson 97349 sets!

I’ve been so focused on talking about all of the new Summer 2014 Halo Mega Bloks sets, I almost forgot that there were other companies who showed new Halo toys at the New York Toy Fair 2014! While NECA is a company that I traditionally haven’t taken much of an interest in (beyond their incredible, short-lived NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figure), they definitely made me sit up and take notice when they acquired a license to make Halo products last year. And at the 2014 Toy Fair, NECA brought their very first Halo product to show off–the enormous Halo 18″ Master Chief figure that showed up for pre-order last month!

MEGA Brands had all kinds of new stuff to premiere at the New York Toy Fair 2014 last week, and one of the themes that fans were most looking forward to seeing was the fan-chosen New Mombasa Police Department Halo Mega Bloks theme. For the first several years of the Halo Mega Bloks line, with very few exceptions we didn’t receive any specific named characters. Through 2012, the only specific individuals released as Mega Bloks Halo figures were The Arbiter, the Master Chief and Cortana. But that time is over, and in 2014 we’ll be treated to a variety of well-known names, including Emile, Sarah Palmer and… ODST The Rookie! I had the privilege of visiting the MEGA Brands showroom at the New York Toy Fair 2014 yesterday to see the Halo Mega Bloks Summer 2014/Fall 2014 lineup of products. When it comes to Halo, MEGA Brands knows what I like–and that’s Halo Wars. So when I entered the Mega Bloks Halo showroom, the first item to catch my eye (other than the jaw-dropping, gigantic Halo Mega Bloks Signature Series Covenant Scarab that I’ll discuss later) was a long-lost vehicle I never expected to see produced. It was with a modicum of dread that I approached the McFarlane Toys booth at the New York Toy Fair 2014 today, as I was downright certain that my fears concerning the death of the McFarlane Toys Halo action figure line would be confirmed at the show. To my surprise–and delight–that turns out to not be the case at all! Alongside a bunch of old Halo 4 action figures in the display case were two brand new, never-before-seen Halo action figure, including the Halo XBox One Master Chief figure!
