In what has to be one of the weirdest moves in Halo Mega Bloks history, MEGA Brands released a surprise Halo Mega Bloks Series 5.5 Mystery Packs set internationally before Series 5 even had a chance to hit many markets! Stranger still, this set is composed of exactly the same figures as Series 5, with one exception–a stealth black Spartan EVA figure has replaced the pink Spartan Air Assault figure as the Series 5.5 Ultra Rare figure.

One bit of good news about this series is that it gives collectors another chance to get the three super-rare Mystery figures: the half Active Camo red Spartan, half Active Camo blue Spartan, and half Active Camo brown Spartan. Yes, even those incredibly rare figures that aren’t even one-per-every-case are included in Halo Mega Bloks Series 5.5–only the pink Spartan Air Assault is missing. As to why this one lineup change-up would have transpired, I really have no idea. Perhaps internationally collectors just really, really hate pink Spartans?All we know for sure is that the pink Air Assault Spartan is out, and the stealth black EVA Spartan is in.

MEGA Brands has said that this Series will be coming to America, so don’t despair and pay ebay prices for the black EVA Spartan Mega Bloks figure just yet. What we don’t know is how, when, and where this set is going to be released. As it’s such a minor variation of the regular Halo Mega Bloks Series 5, I’d guess that we’re most likely to see Series 5.5 as a limited exclusive release–most likely a Toys R Us exclusive.
