We’ve known that Halo 4 Vehicles would be coming in die-cast form from Jada Toys for the better part of this year, but there hasn’t been a ton of buzz about their offerings. Even so, I was pretty stunned to walk into Walmart this afternoon and find almost the entirety of Jada Toys Halo 4 offerings sitting on the shelves, as I haven’t heard any talk of these vehicle sets being released or purchased by anyone.
Every Jada Toys Halo 4 vehicle toy set includes two 2″ figures and one to-scale vehicle. All of the sets come boxed except for the UNSC Mongoose sets, which are carded. The first series of the Halo 4 vehicles die-cast toys by Jada Toys and their prices at Walmart stores in the United States are as follows:
Warthog with Spartan and UNSC Marine $14.97
Covenant Banshee with Elite Zealot and Imperial Grunt $19.97
UNSC Hornet with ODST and Marine Pilot $29.97
UNSC Mongoose with Red Spartans $7.97
UNSC Mongoose with Blue Spartans $7.97
The most interesting set out of these is the Covenant Banshee, in my opinion. The shiny, polished paint on the Banshee looks sensational, and a lot more compelling visually than the dull, undetailed green paint chosen for the UNSC Hornet.
I’ve never heard the designation of “Imperial” for a Grunt before, so that certainly stood out at me. The figure certainly looks like a plain old Grunt Storm to me, but it’s officially titled the “Imperial Grunt” by Jada Toys.
I think it’s sort of ironic that the Covenant Banshee set includes yet another Elite Zealot figure. Up until this year, no Elite Zealot toy had ever been released. Just a few months later, and there are two totally different McFarlane Toys Elite Zealot action figures, two different Mega Bloks Elite Zealot figures, and now a Jada Toys Elite Zealot. Crazy!
The only vehicle being released that wasn’t present at the Walmart I visited was the Covenant Ghost. There actually wasn’t a spot for it on the planogram posted at my Walmart, so I’m not sure if they’ll be carrying the die-cast Ghost set at all.
I’ll pick up the Covenant Banshee in the near future for a full review, so stay tuned for more news of the Jada Toys Halo 4 line.
Readers–What do you think of the Halo 4 line by Jada Toys? Are you interested in collecting this line? Should Halo Toy News seek to increase coverage of the line? Leave a comment and let us know!
I’m a sucker for tiny figures (and had no idea these were out), so I picked up the mongoose set to get my feet wet. Not too shabby…one of the Spartan’s legs broke right outta the package, but other spartan and the mongoose itself are pretty nice; definitely a decent buy for $8. Warthog and/or hornet may be next; can’t wait to see what you think of the banshee!
So, will the 14 inch Warthog be to scale with the current scale of the Mcfarlane figures?
And I came very close to biting the bullet on the Banshee. That thing is gorgeous.
Saw these at Wal-Mart today, not all that impressed honestly. The die-cast looks good on the Banshee, but the Warthog and Mongoose are just too shiny for my taste. I think I’ll stick with the McFarlane Micro Ops
I got a Combat Edition Mongoose set last week, and I liked it very much. The vehicle looks good in the matte finish and I was blown away by the articulation on the tiny figures. The forearm on my rocket launcher Spartan came off, but it fits back in without problems. I ignore if this piece was meant to be glued in place or not, but I will leave it as is.
I picked up both normal and combat edition mongoose along with the combat edition warthog. It should be noted that the combat editions have a matte finish while the normal ones are glossy. I would like to see your reviews on whatever covenant stuff you pick up. Looking forward to picking up the 14 inch warthog as soon as that shows up too.
Picked up the Hornet today- pretty awesome, but I’m not sure if it’s $30 awesome. The figures are fantastic; nice detailing and the same articulation as the other human/spartan figs, but the ODST’s hip and shoulder movement is a bit hindered due to his armor. Oh, and no real QC issues on these guys, either. The pilot’s leg popped out at the hip joint, but it went back in effortlessly, and hasn’t come out since.
The paint job is decidedly new…this is a fresh-off-the-dealer-floor hornet, but if you can get past the lack of weathering, you’ve got yourself a nice display piece. It feels super-solid (it’s a chunk of metal…I’d hope it would), and looks great next to the mongoose.
Two vehicles in, and I’m really digging this line so far; guess it’s just a matter of time before I pick up the warthog and banshee.
I have the collector’s edition 14″ Warthog and I can say that the Mc Farlane figurines do not fit in, are slightly larger and can accommodate even if not quite match up.
The Hog is beautiful and the detail is amazing (but could have been better)
I just ordered the bigger vehicles and can’t wait to get them but is there any news on a series 2?
