Halo 4 The Didact Figure Boxed Photos Revealed by McFarlane Toys!

We’re coming up on it being close to a year since McFarlane Toys released their last series of Halo 4 action figures. With the exception of the GameStop Rewards Red Spartan Warrior figure exclusive, McFarlane Toys hasn’t released a single new Halo 4 figure in 2013. But as hard as it may be to believe, the famine is at last approaching its end. Today, McFarlane Toys released official packaged photos of the Halo 4 The Didact Deluxe Boxed Figure, coming our way in just a few short weeks…

McFarlane Halo 4 Didact Figure Box October 2013 Series 2

The mighty flame of love I once had for McFarlane Toys’ Halo action figures has died down into a flicker over the course of the great Halo figure drought of 2013. McFarlane Toys spent the year shunning their longtime Halo fans and developing a plethora of Assassin’s Creed and The Walking Dead figures instead. But at last, there is hope of reigniting the Halo flame, with The Halo 4 Didact figure on his way and Halo 4 Series 2 looming on the horizon this fall!

McFarlane Toys had plenty of time to make sure that they did the Didact right, and they certainly have done right by him. The figure is absolutely immense, standing 9″ tall, and has sculpting and paint detail equivalent to the very best Halo figures McFarlane Toys has ever released.

Halo 4 The Didact Action Figure Back Series 2 2013 McFarlane ToysI think it’s a pretty good marketing move on McFarlane Toys’ part to prominently display the blurb about the exclusive Halo 4 Refractive Venator Armor skin and Refractive Forerunner Suppressor skin codes on the front of the Didact figure’s box. Hopefully this will generate a significantly increased amount of sales over previous Halo 4 figures that did not include DLC codes.

Rather than having an extra unmasked head, it appears that the McFarlane Didact figure has a helmet or faceplate that can be detached from the figure’s head so that you can display the Didact with or without his helmet. I’m not sure showing off the Didact’s ugly mug in the packaging was a great stratagem from a sales point of view (he is ugly), but it’s definitely cool for hardcore fans to be able to see point the masked and unmasked versions of the figure through the window box.

McFarlane Toys Halo 4 The Didact Action FigureMcFarlane Toys has placed an official release date of October 2013 on the deluxe Halo 4 Didact figure, but Amazon (which has by far the best pre-order price on the Didact, FYI) still has the Didact listed as coming out on September 15, 2013.

Ordinarily I would say that Amazon is mistaken, but they’ve been eerily accurate with getting new McFarlane Halo toys in and shipping them out on the dates that they’ve specified. It could be that Amazon will be getting the initial shipment of the Didact just three weeks from now, with other retailers not receiving him until October 2013.

I (obviously) have a couple of McFarlane Toys Didact figures on pre-order from various retailers, so I’ll post a full review and photo gallery of the Didact action figure once it is released this fall.

Are you excited for The Didact, Halo fans, or has the excruciatingly long wait made you lose interest in adding the supreme Forerunner villain to your Halo figure collection?

  1. yay! first comment 🙂 the didact has to be the tallest figure ever!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  2. Why has it taken a whole year for Series 2 to come out? Since Star Wars collecting has been pretty lame the last few years, Halo was a nice new thing for me to collect. Now that’s been at a lull. I’m glad they’re finally coming back. I wish the Micro Ops line had continued. Those are really cool. I want my Scorpion Tank!

    • It took a year for Series 2 to come out because McFarlane has chosen to concentrate on cranking out Walking Dead junk as quickly as they possibly can before the Walking Dead bubble bursts.

  3. it disturbs me how much attention they’ve given to the detail of his butt cheeks. i mean, WHY would they want that kind of detail there?!

  4. Noticed this a couple of days ago. It’s nice to see that they still know they have a Halo toy line. Hopefully it won’t be too long till they have the normal sized series 2 figures up on the site. I’m definitely going to get the Didact, but I can’t say the same for any of the other figures. Chief is tempting because of the in-scale Cortana, but I’m going to wait and see how they look in-person. As for the Didact’s head, I think that helmet is still an alternate head, rather than a helmet you can put on the normal head. I don’t think the helmet is big enough to put over the regular head.

I’m still disappointed that they’ve canceled the Lasky figure. He would have been a must-have if they produced him. Hopefully they’ll find a way to release him in the future. Putting him in a multi-pack of some kind could work. That said, I am not at all optimistic about the future of their Halo line. If they do any more past series 2, we might get what…two more waves of Halo 4 figures…if we’re lucky. Then who knows what they may or may not do for the next game.

  5. I am looking forward to getting the didact but how much is it going to cost and the didact doesn’t Have that much detail on His butt not nearly as much as the storm grunt has and I don’t care if didactic only comes with his helmet on he still looks very cool also I really like the bonus armor it comes with

    • If I’m not mistaken, the Didact here will be priced at the same price-point as the Promethean Knight was. They were what…$25-$30 at retail? It’s been long enough that I can’t remember…lol
