Obviously through some sort of arcane sorcery, McFarlane Toys actually managed to get an entire product series out to retailers before showing off any prototypes of the figures to the public! We saw them today for the first time at the New York 2013 Toy Fair, but a couple days earlier online stores already got in their first shipments of the Halo Avatars Series 2 figures…
After we went around half a year without seeing any prototype figures after the initial announcement of the McFarlane Halo Avatars Series 2 figures, I really had assumed that the Halo XBox Live Avatar series was being quietly cancelled in the same vein as the unfortunate Halo Micro Ops line.
But it seems that McFarlane Toys was actually pulling the wool over our eyes, because not only were they still having Halo Avatar figures Series 2 produced, but they actually managed to get the figures into America from the overseas factories and ship them to online retailers before ever even showing off a prototype! In this day and age, that is simply incredible.
For those who don’t remember (which is totally understandable since we didn’t hear one peep about the series for many months), Avatars Series 2 consists of eight mini Halo figures that are each a little over 2″ tall:
- Avatar Wearing Blue EVA Helmet & Legendary Tee
- Emile (from Spartan Noble Squad in Halo Reach)
- Avatar Wearing A Brute Chieftain Costume
- Metallic Gold ODST
- Banshee Vehicle (Mini-Sized)
- Avatar Figure Wearing Anniversary Helmet and Tee
- Avatar Figure Wearing Blue JFO Helmet & Black Noble Team Tee
- Red Spartan Mark VI
Unlike the wasteful hard plastic tubes that the McFarlane Halo Avatar Series 1 figures came in, Avatars Series 2 is coming packed in much more ecologically-sound blind bags (which hopefully will also make it a lot easier to figure out what figures are inside!).
I make no secret of the fact that the Halo Avatars figures are not my favorite branch of Halo collecting, but the figures are just so darn cheap that I went ahead and ordered nine Halo Avatar Series 2 blind bags anyway. I’ll post full reviews of the figures I draw once they arrive.
And if you can’t wait and want to order some Halo Avatars of your own, you can check out the in-stock online listings for Halo Avatars Series 2 right here.
McFarlane delays Halo 4 Series 2 and releases these? Thanks……
I actually like these avatar figures, I do hate the tube they came in as I can’t tell what they are and if I get doubles they don’t have high resale value online, unless you get the Golden figure or the warthog. I do like the base of series 1 more than the plain black one series 2 will get, so I plan on buying a few more so I can use the base on the 2nd series. And I’m thankful that series 2 got delayed, if you collect anything and everything Halo like me, then there’s only so much you can buy ie Halo 4 Play Arts Kai, the Sideshow Statue, 13′ Carter etc. So that is actually a break to catch up and save up.
this is…..something…
Will you be posting the codes for these like you do for Mega Bloks blind bags?
If there are codes on the Halo Avatars Series 2 packaging, I’ll definitely post them. The problem is that McFarlane didn’t put any kind of identifying codes of any kind on Series 1, so I’m not sure that they’ll be any way to tell Series 2 apart either.
