It’s been a long and uncertain road, but the tumultuous journey of the latest (and possibly final) pair of Halo Mega Bloks Drop Pods is complete! Some collectors (including myself) thought that this day would never come, but the Halo Mega Bloks ODST Recon Specialist and Covenant Elite General Drop Pods we first saw back in 2011 are finally available for purchase!

In late 2011, fans got their first glimpse into what was thought to be the two Drop Pods from the summer 2012 Halo Mega Bloks wave: a UNSC ODST Recon Specialist Drop Pod and a Covenant Elite General Drop Pod.

The ODST Recon Specialist figure was greatly-anticipated by collectors, as the figure looks like Captain Veronica Dare, the ONI Officer who (sort of) leads the ODST squad in the “Halo 3: ODST” video game. While McFarlane Toys released an official figure of Dare in their Halo line back in 2010, this would be the first Mega Bloks Dare figure.

Fans waited and some online stores even took pre-orders for the pair of Drop Pods, but they never materialized. Then word came out in the fall that the two sets had been cancelled, and collectors despaired.

But all hope was not lost, as later on in the fall, we learned that both the Elite General and the ODST Recon Specialist figures would in face be coming–just a while later than expected! While the Elite General was originally scheduled to come with a Crimson Drop Pod, the actual Drop Pod that was produced to be included with him uses the shiny maroon-like paint that we first saw on the Covenant Revenant back in 2012.

These are presently the only two Halo Mega Bloks 2013 Drop Pods announced, and with the apparently lackluster sales of the Drop Pods at retail stores, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if these two end up being the last entries in the Halo Mega Bloks Drop Pod sub-line. I’ll be reviewing both Drop Pods in full this coming week.

The UNSC ODST Recon Specialist and Elite General Drop Pod Halo Mega Bloks 2013 sets have just started to arrive for online retailers like BA Toys, and can be ordered through the links at the top of this article. They should be arriving in regular retail stores over the course of the next few weeks to a month.
