As the clock ticks down toward the end of 2012, more and more information creeps out about the Halo Mega Bloks 2013 “The Forerunner Threat” line of toys. Today, full details finally emerged regarding the hotly-anticipated new Halo army-builder figure sets for 2013: the UNSC Orange Combat Unit 97083 and the Covenant Cobalt Combat Unit 97084!

Those of you who have been waiting for the opportunity to army-build Orange Spartans, your time has finally come!

Unlike some recent Halo Mega Bloks Combat Unit sets which only included three figures and some extra armor pieces, both the Orange UNSC Combat Unit and the Cobalt Covenant Combat Unit contain four figures each. I much prefer a whole other figure to just some “Customize!” armor pieces, and it much improves the value of the Combat Unit sets.

The Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Orange Combat Unit will include an Orange Spartan Mark VI, an Orange Spartan EOD, an Orange Spartan Scout, and an Active-Camo Spartan CQB. The set also includes four weapons: a Rocket Launcher, SMG, Shotgun, and Active Camo Shotgun. Personally, I’d have worked a Sticky Detonator or DMR into the set as something really new, but you can never have enough SMGs and the Active Camo Shotgun is a pretty cool addition.

The Covenant will likewise be bolstering their ranks in 2013 with the Halo Mega Bloks Covenant Cobalt Combat Unit, including a Cobalt Brute, a Cobalt Jump Pack Brute, a Cobalt Grunt, and an Active Camo Grunt. I’m totally shocked to see a Covenant Combat Unit not including an Elite Combat figure, but I think by now we all have enough Mega Bloks Elite Combat figures. And an Active Camo Grunt–that is cool and totally unexpected!

The Cobalt Covenant Combat Unit will also come with four weapons in addition to a Jump Pack: a Needler, a Mauler, a Plasma Rifle, and an Active Camo Needler. Nothing especially exciting in those weapons, but the Mauler is my personal favorite Halo gun and the Active Camo Needler is a welcome switch from the usual Covenant weapons.

The 2013 Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Orange Combat Unit and Covenant Cobalt Combat Unit sets are scheduled to be released in December 2012 and should be available in mass by early 2013.
