Halo Mega Bloks 2016 Halo Heroes Series 1 Figures Released!

Even though the January 2016 wave of new Halo Mega Bloks sets has the smallest number of new vehicles ever included in a wave–zero–that doesn’t mean that we’re not getting some good stuff this winter! And the most-anticipated of the new Halo toys this season are something all-new: a series of single-packed, carded named (and some multiplayer) characters. And finally, they have arrived: Halo Heroes Series 1 has now been released!

Halo Heroes Series 1 Figures Case Display

I had started hearing various sightings of the first wave of Mega Bloks Halo Heroes Series 1 figures early in January, but all of my trips out searching for these hotly-demanded figures bore no fruit… until today!

The store I’ve heard is most commonly stocking this new line is Walmart, so I’ve been hitting every Walmart in my area several times per week to no avail. But finally, I walked into one of my nearby Walmarts today, and discovered that it had a (picked-over) Halo Heroes Mega Bloks display waiting for me!

Halo Heroes ODST Buck Figure PackagedFor those who need a refresher, this wave includes six figures, of which four are named characters from various Halo video games:

  • The Master Chief
  • Spartan Thorne
  • Spartan Vale
  • ODST Buck
  • Spartan Defender
  • Spartan Orbital

Predictably, the first two characters to sell out at my store were two non-multiplayer characters: the Master Chief (of course) and Gabriel Thorne. So for the moment, I’m still on the hunt. I’m not at all surprised to see Master Chief sell out quickly–he is the icon of this franchise, after all–but Spartan Gabriel Thorne’s quick sell-out was a bit of a surprise. I didn’t realize he was that popular, but seeing as how 3A Toys produced a $200+ action figure of him, I probably should have expected he’d have a solid fan base.

Halo Heroes Spartan Orbital Mega Bloks 2016 Figure PackagedIt’s worth noting that while my store had just one Spartan Olympia Vale left in stock–which I bought and reviewed earlier today–there were multiples of Buck and both multiplayer Spartans still present in the display (even after I bought one of each for myself).

I’ve been worried since the lineups were announced that the generic Halo Heroes Spartans would end up selling poorly and clogging store shelves–let’s hope that my first sighting in-person isn’t a precursor to that becoming fact. ODST Buck’s poor sales may just be an anomaly, or may have to do with the character being more beloved in his new Spartan-IV armor from “Halo 5: Guardians”. We’ll see.

Mega Bloks Halo 2016 Heroes Spartan Defender Figure PackagedHalo Heroes Wave 1 is also available online right now, but only at crazily inflated prices due to the relative scarcity of the set so far. I’d recommend waiting and paying $5 for these figures in a couple weeks instead of $10-$15 each for them right now, but that’s just me.

I believe that each figure is packed at three per case in the case assortment, so there should be three complete sets in every display. With those kinds of numbers, none of the figures should end up being especially difficult to find–just as long as the generic Spartans don’t sell poorly and cause stores to not reorder more cases.

Have you spotted the Series 1 Halo Heroes Mega Bloks figures in your area, collectors? If so, which figures are selling well near you, and which (if any) are you planning to pick up for your own collection?

  1. I had to get the Vale & Buck right away as soon as they hit eBay. The prices were more like $8 a piece then. I sort of regret not getting the Chief one as well, it’s going to be impossible to find in stores :/

    • UPDATE: After a Target, a Toys R’ Us, a Fred Meyer, and 3 WalmartsI finally found them stocked and the third. Brand new box, hadn’t been picked through yet. Managed to get the remaining for and an extra Chief to leave in the blister pack.

Side note, the Spartan Thorne is absolutely amazing.

  2. Only one of my Walmarts got them in like two weeks ago. That was the last time I saw them. I searched multiple walmarts to no avail. There were like 6 left, 2 chiefs, 2 Bucks, one Vale and one thorne. I grabbed one of each. The generic multilayer Spartans were sold out for me, and are the last 2 I need for a full set.

  3. I live in the UK, so won’t be seeing any of these. Can’t understand why Buck doesn’t seem popular though, I have been trying to build up an Alpha-nine team, still missing Buck and Mickey, because both sets aren’t available here. I would certainly get the non-named characters, I think the weapon paint job for the Spartan Defender looks awesome, especially the intricate detailing.

  4. They are plenty where I am, but I’m afraid you’re right, Chief, Vale and Thorne are the 3 that disappear first, Buck and the 2 generic Spartans seems to be the ones that’s always left.

  5. $5 a piece is awfully steep though, the blind packs are only $3, and all this set has extra is the stand and a nicer package.

    • The upside to these is you don’t have to buy a $40-$180 product to get your favorite Characters (Spartan Buck – Scorpion, ODST Mickey – NMPD Pelican, and Spartans Carter and Jun – HW Elephant, come to mind).

Now, clearly so far they haven’t released those characters seperately, and who knows if they ever will. It would be nice for MEGA to retain the molds and release Team Box sets some time in the future for those that miss out on collecting these characters individually. Yes, it sucks for us that purchase these vehicle sets just to get them, but it keeps customers coming back, and I’d much rather they released characters over again over these rehashed generic Spartans over and over in skittles rainbow (I’m looking at you Oceanic).

      • I’m right there with you. I collect the official characters more so than generic Spartans. It’s one thing to have to by a small set for a character (like Rookie and the Wombat, or even the Booster Frame for Fred), but I can’t justify buying something like the Elephant just for 2 figures. Plus when the sets go out of print, the after market prices get insane.

I love the idea they’re running with for the Heroes line. I hope they keep adding official characters to the line, especially ones that showed up in the hard to get sets.

As for Team sets, it’s probably the only way we’ll ever see a Linda. I’m keeping my fingers crossed

  6. Went into my Walmart two weeks ago (?) to find these surprisingly stocked. Thorne was nowhere to be found, a couple Bucks, 1 Chief, and One Vale, and lots of the two Generics. Picked up Chief ( He goes well with Spartan Fred from the Booster Frame that released last year at this time), Vale, and Buck. Now we just need Kelly in her Legends Mjolnir Mark IV.

I have gone back multiple times, no restocking, and picked up the two generics (last in stock). Still searching for Thorne so I can stick him with his pal Ayit ‘Sevi (The ONI Sangheli from Halo:Escalation), which the Blue Sangheli Metallic Series just so happens to look exactly like!

      • That’s with the new Armor unfortunately. I’m referring to Halo Legends White Mark IV Armor, like Fred and the new Chief that came out

    • Good find on the Ayit ‘Sevi Metallic Pod. Do you know of anymore un-named figures that match up well with official characters?

      • Hmm. I’m sure you know the “Covenant Commander” that comes with the new Ghost is supposed to be Jul M’Dama. Not sure why they didn’t name him officially.

Since we have the mold for the Spartan Protector, if we ever get a blue one, it’d be an “OK” fit for Naiya Ray from Fireteam Jackknife.

However, the White Spartan Soldier that comes with the new set “Covenant Watchtower” could also be an “OK” fit for that traitorous scum Vladimir Scruggs, also from Jackknife.

We need an off purple Zealot for Sali Nyon (not the deep purple from the Covenant Armor Customizer / Storm Lance sets.

Also, you can make Swords of Sanghelios Soldiers to go with the Arbiter by taking the Maroon/Red Elite Basic from Charlie Series and replacing the “brown skin” arms with the black arms from the Zealot/Ranger Covenant Customizer sets.

  7. Picked up 3 Vales, 3 Thornes, 1 MC, 2 Bucks, 2 Obitals, 2 Defenders while on lunch today. All from the same Walmart in the DFW area. Just looking for one more MC.

  8. I must have got pretty lucky with these! I found two boxes full of these at one of my local Walmart’s. Each box was nearly full and had a good number of each figure, so I got one of each and was even fortunate enough to get one of the display boxes with them.

  9. I saw a single case of these once in very early January and haven’t seen a single one since, anywhere. And I travel a lot. (Colorado). I’m now kicking myself for not buying them when I saw them the the first time.

    • Hey man, I can get almost every single one of them if not ALL of them right now at my local walmart if you’re willing to pay their price plus me shipping them to you.

      Let me know.
