I said long ago that I had no interest in picking up an XBox One until Halo came to the system, and I stayed true to my word. But with the Halo Master Chief Collection game hitting stores next week, I finally decided to go pick up my limited-edition white XBox One bundle today. On my trip into town to pick up my XBox console, I stopped at Toys R Us on a whim. While there, my eyes lit up to finally see something I’d waited my entire Halo collecting life for: the Signature Series Halo Mega Bloks Covenant Scarab 97964 has now been released!
While I knew that the Mega Bloks Scarab was expected in stores shortly, I had no idea that it was already released in the United States, making for a truly magical moment when I unexpectedly came face-to-face with the granddaddy of the Covenant’s ground forces!
Even having seen the Covenant Scarab Halo Mega Bloks 97964 set at New York Toy Fair 2014 and again at New York Comic Con 2014. I still wasn’t prepared for the sheer size and weight of the set’s box. The Scarab is one heavy Halo Mega Bloks set!
I had the Mega Bloks Halo Scarab in my hands, I picked it up and put it back down several times, but finally I forced myself to relent and walk away. Bringing home an almost $400 video game console is one thing, but if I brought home an XBox One alongside a $250 Mega Bloks set, my wife would absolutely impale me with a Covenant Energy Sword.
So no unboxing photos and review from me of the Covenant Scarab Halo Mega Bloks set for the time being. But soon… Soon!
Although I couldn’t bring myself to buy the amazing Halo Mega Bloks Covenant Scarab toy today, I did take the opportunity to take a plethora of photos of the set’s box to share.
The back of the box details the five figures included with the Covenant Scarab Halo Mega Bloks set: the Holographic Prophet of Truth, two Jackal Snipers, a Covenant Elite Commando and a Covenant Elite Ascetic.
As expected, the Signature Series Scarab is retailing for $249.99 plus tax at Toys R Us stores, which it is exclusive to (at least, for now). If you take advantage of the Buy One Get One 40% Off Sale at Toys R Us, you’ll pay just $149.99 for your second Covenant Scarab (though you’ll have to somehow find space for two Scarabs in your household!).
We’ve already known the dimensions of the Mega Bloks Halo Covenant Scarab for a while now, but in case you wanted to see it nice and official, right on the packaging, here it is: the Covenant Scarab Mega Bloks vehicle is 19″ long and 15″ high.
For weapons, you get two Covenant Carbines, an Energy Sword, a Fuel Rod Cannon and two Plasma Pistols. We don’t get the Fuel Rod Cannon nearly often enough, so I’m excited to see it included here.
Now that it’s officially out there in the wild, are you planning to pick up your own 97964 Halo Mega Bloks Scarab, Halo collectors? If so, are you planning to rush out and grab the Scarab set right away, or are you going to have to bide your time and wait to grab this masterpiece?
I will definitely wait. The figures in the final release are a huge disappointment to me. While I want the scarab itself, it’s something i’ll wait for a price-drop on.
Why is the prophet of truth active camo?? My Spartans need to see him to impale him with his own energy sword! Nice set besides that, though
its not active camo its a hologram
you know you can get the real prophet of troth in the covenant shadow .got it for a 70 percent discount!!
I picked it up a week ago, and was a bit dissapointed with the figure choices. All the other recent sets had stand out figures. At least a gold arbiter would have been nice. Or some hunters. It is a signature series set after all. Also, i havent seen the police cyclops at any store even with fresh cases opened.
I’m thorn between wanting to buy it and not wanting to buy it. This thing is just TOO BIG.
Wish I knew this was coming out before I finally pulled the trigger on buying the WizKids HaloClix Scarab. Shelf presence is about the same and the MegaBloks figures look good on it too. Makes the cost-benefit analysis on the MegaBloks version unfavourable.
This will be mine! Might wait for a store discount around Xmas time though. As this is huge it will definitely the centre piece of my display.
I ordered mine at amazon.co.uk. It is offered for around 160 pounds but when I actually put it in my order basket the price dropped to around 130 pounds (lucky me ;)) so in the end with shipping I paid 145 pounds. That’s around 227$.
Toysrus.com just lowered the price to $187.49! Got get it Dabid!
Now it’s $190.49!
