While I’ve been driving around like a crazy person trying to hunt down McFarlane Toys Halo 4 Series 2 from what seems like an infinite number of Walgreens stores (and no, I haven’t found any yet besides Master Chief & Cortana), I dropped by Toys R Us today and discovered a Halo Mega Bloks set I hadn’t even heard was out was right there on the shelf. It’s one of the three remaining Mega Bloks Halo Fall 2013 sets–the Halo Mega Bloks Flood Hunters UNSC Falcon 97173 is now available in stores!

If I wasn’t an obsessive collector, I could pretend that the MIA Flood Hunters UNSC Falcon Halo Mega Bloks set had slipped my mind. But, well–it didn’t. I’ve been checking my local Toys R Us stores for the set every time I’ve been in the stores, and today was no different–except that today, Toys R Us actually had their second last exclusive set of 2013 in stock (the final Toys R Us exclusive Halo Mega Bloks set this year is, of course, the upcoming Halo Mega Bloks Signature Series UNSC Mammoth).

I’m usually very indifferent toward Halo Mega Bloks sets that are just repaints of earlier vehicles (unless it’s an Arctic UNSC anything–then I’m all over it), but the black Covert Ops Falcon in the Halo Mega Bloks 97173 Flood Hunters UNSC Falcon set is easily as good looking or better looking than the actual game-accurate Mega Bloks UNSC Falcon previously released!

In addition to the actual stealth UNSC Falcon vehicle, the set also includes a couple of very good looking Covert Ops UNSC Troops (a Pilot and a Spartan), three Flood Infection form figures, and what’s perhaps the biggest prize of the whole set–two Mega Bloks Flood Carrier Form figures.

MEGA Brands did take the time to craft a little scenario to stick on the back of the box for this set. It’s not exactly a Game of Thrones-level compelling read, but whatever–it’s a starting point for a story that your imagination can finish (or discard).

The Halo Mega Bloks Flood Hunters UNSC Falcon set #97173 contains 460 pieces and is priced at $59.99. The set is a Toys R Us exclusive, so it’s unlikely you’ll be able to find it any cheaper online (in fact, for some reason people have been willing to pay the absurdly high price of $80 plus shipping on ebay for the Flood Hunters Falcon already).
