There’s an update on the status of the Fall 2012 Halo Mega Bloks Drop Pods Assortment, and it’s unfortunately not a good one. In a rare bit of bad news regarding the Halo Mega Bloks line, the Fall 2012 Halo Mega Bloks Crimson Covenant Drop Pod and Dare ODST Drop Pod have been cancelled. Cancellations don’t happen that often in the Halo Mega Bloks line, but from time to time they do occur (I’m still crying my eyes out over the cancelled Halo Wars Firebase).
We saw leaked photos of most of the Fall 2012 Halo Mega Bloks sets back in January, and at this point all of those sets have been released by MEGA Brands except for these two Drop Pods. The sets may have been cancelled due to slow sales of earlier Drop Pods–many chains never even carried the spring wave with the Flood Pod and the Elite Ultra Covenant Drop Pod.
The figure packed in with the ODST Drop Pod would have been an ODST body with a Recon helmet, resembling the female ODST Dare. MEGA Brands doesn’t typically release figures of specific named characters (the Master Chief and Cortana with the Forward Unto Dawn are an exception), but we’ve received other figures that resemble named ODSTs and Spartans like Kat, Jorge, and Mickey in earlier sets with generic designations. Regardless of the name on the package, for all intents and purposes, the figure would have been Dare from the “Halo 3: ODST” video game.
The Crimson Covenant Drop Pod would have come with a Crimson Combat Elite figure. As stylish as a blood-red Covenant Drop Pod would have been, we got a crimson-colored Combat Elite in the Covenant Crimson Combat Unit earlier this year, so not getting that Drop Pod isn’t nearly as much of a loss as the loss of the ODST “Dare” one is.
All pre-orders from BA Toys and other online retailers for the Halo Mega Bloks ODST “Dare” and Crimson Covenant Elite Combat Drop Pods have been cancelled.
