Halo Mega Bloks Sets in Summer 2013 to Feature Lights & Sounds!

I had heard that a handful of the new Halo Mega Bloks set for Summer 2013 shown at the New York Toy Fair 2013 last week had electronic features incorporated into them, but I wanted to hold off on reporting on them until I had all of the details. Luckily, thanks to a video posted online, we now know exactly what Halo vehicles sets will be featuring lights and sounds this summer, and exactly how they’re going to work…

Halo Mega Bloks Summer 2013 Electronic Light and Sound Vehicle Sets

In total, four summer 2013 Halo Mega Bloks sets will have all new electronic lights and/or sound features–

Halo 4 Mega Bloks UNSC Pelican Gunship with Light Up Guns Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Pelican Gunship 97129: This is the granddaddy of the Halo Mega Bloks 2013 collection–the UNSC Pelican Gunship as it appeared in Halo 4! You can press the dual-canopy in order to activate the lights and sounds of the colossal nose gun on the Pelican. In addition, the Promethean Knight Battlewagon included in the set will allegedly also light up, making it the first-ever light-up Halo Mega Bloks figure!

Supposedly the Spartan figures that come with this set are the famous “Majestic Team”, although the actual figures displayed aren’t especially convincing to me as those characters. The Pelican design itself is beautiful, but I’m skeptical about the appearance of the clear nose-guns when they’re aren’t actively lit up.

Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Hornet vs. Covenant Vampire Lights and Sounds SetHalo Mega Bloks UNSC Hornet vs. Covenant Vampire 97123: While Halo Mega Bloks 97123 will contain both a UNSC Hornet and a Covenant Vampire, only the Hornet will feature lights and sounds. The lights and sounds on the Hornet can actually be motion-activated, so your Halo Mega Bloks Hornet can light up and make battle noises while you swoosh it around in the air. I feel like this particular set of electronic features is pretty doofy, and I’m not thrilled that the Hornet is stuck with an enormous out-of-scale nose gun so that it can highlight the light-up functions.

Halo Mega Bloks Night Ops Gausshog Light Up Headlights
Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Night-Ops Gausshog 97134: The UNSC Night Ops Gausshog, in all its desert camo glory, will feature sounds and light-up headlights (see the photo above). This seems very gimmicky to me, and I sincerely hope we get a non-electronic Gausshog (and Arctic Gausshog!) within the next year.

Halo Mega Bloks Anti-Armor Cobra with Light Up TurretHalo Mega Bloks UNSC Anti-Armor Cobra 97139: Finally, we come to my beloved UNSC Cobra. The real gimmick of this set is its ability to transform from a mobile tank to an anti-armor vehicle in lockdown mode, but it also features some sounds and lights on its turret when you press back on the button to the rear of the turret. Of all the electronic Halo Mega Bloks sets, this is easily the one that looks like it has the action features most seamlessly incorporated.

Overall, I’m not really impressed with the electronic light-up or sound features on any of these sets, as I feel like they’re really going to be intrusive and get the way, but maybe MEGA Brands can win me over when these sets hit stores in June/July 2013. All four electronic Halo Mega Bloks sets are now available for pre-order from BA Toys.

Halo Mega Bloks Sets in Summer 2013 to Feature Lights & Sounds! — 10 Comments

  1. I’m not a big fan of this feature. I hate how the lit up parts look and I’m sure it’s going to add extra to the price tag.

    • I am going to try building them without the ‘light and sound’ parts. Why include this feature. It is foolish and will only attract small children. The move is just weird, the electronic elements will undoubtedly increase the price and will also be highly annoying.

      • I don’t really like them either. i would rather have a boring cheap pelican than a noisy expensive one

  2. i would be fine with it if they gave the parts to make it with out the lights

  3. MEGA BLOKS messed up all the new sets, now cause of that they now look babyish
    🙁 🙁 !!!!

    • Agreed, considering there is an 8+ limit on the models it is a strange decision as most children of 8+ aren’t interested in lights and sounds. The addition of the new features is just childish. The lights are only mildly bad, but the sounds are just dreadful. I say that mega should remove the novelty items.

  4. The only good thing that will come out of putting lights on the sets is the light-up Promethean Knight and the UNSC Anti-Armor Cobra (which looks awesome)….. and maybe the UNSC Night-Ops Gausshog, but I’m not getting my hopes up…..

  5. Wasn’t Cortana from the Halo Mega Bloks Forward Unto Dawn technically the first light up figure?
