Halo Mega Bloks: The Top 10 Most Expensive Sets

A couple weeks back I posted an article I’m particularly proud of: The Top 10 Most Expensive McFarlane Halo Figures. What I wasn’t expecting (for whatever reason) was the numerous messages readers sent me asking for a list of the most expensive Halo Mega Bloks sets on the aftermarket to complement the McFarlane Halo list. I hadn’t been planning on creating such a list for Halo Mega Bloks, but news has been slow while we wait for the next wave of Halo toys to hit, so I decided to put some research hours in. As such, I’ve compiled the Top 10 Most Expensive Halo Mega Bloks vehicle sets on the secondary market list below…

Halofest Halo CE UNSC Warthog 99660 Halo Mega Bloks SetIn order to not skew the results of this list, all Halo Mega Bloks sets–including ones currently available at retail–are eligible to make this list. That alone should give readers an idea of some of the sets that will be making an appearance here…

Halo Mega Bloks ODST Hawk 96850 Box 10. Halo Mega Bloks ODST Hawk 96850

Starting off the list is a set I expected to place a little higher on the list–the limited-edition Halo Mega Bloks ODST Hawk 96850. This set was a Toys R Us exclusive that featured a grey repaint of the UNSC Hawk, a Covenant Ghost, and one of the first releases of a Halo Mega Bloks Jackal figure. I sort of expected this set to be more valuable, but I guess the UNSC Hawk just isn’t all that popular. As this set’s average selling price is $60-$70 shipped, it’s only had a moderate increase in value since its brief run at Toys R Us stores.

Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Falcon with Landing Pad 96940 Box9. Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Falcon 96940

A set many collectors probably aren’t anticipating being on this list is the UNSC Falcon 96940. While the set was only recently discontinued, it’s already selling for nearly double its original price. What’s the cause for the popularity? This set contains the only release of the UNSC Falcon in any set, as well as an Air Assault Spartan figure that is a pretty close match for the female Noble Squad member from the “Halo: Reach” video game, Kat! As there is no known reissue of the Halo Mega Bloks Falcon coming in any set, Halo Mega Bloks 96940 may very well continue to increase in price.

Halo Mega Bloks Countdown 97017 Set Box8. UNSC Countdown 97017

Although it appears on this list, the UNSC Countdown 97017 isn’t an especially coveted set. In most stores this set retails for $90-$100, so its average secondary market price of $80-$100–including shipping–is usually less than what you’ll pay for it just buying it at retail. While there’s a terrific selection of minifigures here to complement the UNSC Sabre and Gantry, it seems collectors aren’t all that thrilled about paying ~$100 retail for this set. If you want the Halo Mega Bloks Countdown 97107 set, it’s constantly available for below MSRP and with free shipping on Amazon. It’s priced at $85 right now, but they’ve had it for as cheap as $40 (yes, $40!) earlier this year.

Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Hornet Attack 96867 Box7. UNSC Hornet Attack 96867

The second exclusive on this list of the Top 10 Most Expensive Halo Mega Bloks sets is the UNSC Hornet Attack 96867!  This infamous Target exclusive sold poorly for about a year when it was originally available at Target, but once it was fully sold-out in stores, its value really spiked! With its unmistakable red Hornet and Covenant Watchtower, this set has remained popular long after being in stores and will now cost you $80-$100 shipped on the aftermarket.

Halofest Halo CE UNSC Warthog 99660 Halo Mega Bloks Set6. Halo Mega Bloks Halofest CE Warthog 99660

Enter the third exclusive on this list–it’s not a store exclusive, but rather the one exclusive Halofest Halo Mega Bloks vehicle set! Available only at the Halofest convention back in 2011, the Halofest CE Warthog contains a Warthog with very special paint deco. Like the previously discussed red Hornet, the Halofest Combat Evolved Warthog 99660 typically sells for $80-$100 on the secondary market. Any cheaper than that and you’re getting a very lucky deal.

Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Elephant Set5. UNSC Elephant 96942

The UNSC Elephant is a bit of an oddity on this week. Stores set the selling price on this mammoth (pardon the pun) set at a hefty $120, but with poor sales, it ended up being clearanced out of many stores at far less. It’s settled into selling for about $100-$115 on the aftermarket now, but oddly enough, you can still order the Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Elephant from Amazon for about $85. Will the humongous UNSC Elephant ever rise to a higher slot in this list?

Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Scorpion Box Series 1 20094. UNSC Scorpion 96807

The only one of the original wave of Halo Mega Bloks sets to make this list is the UNSC Scorpion 96807. Debuting way back in 2009, the Scorpion is the second most popular and well-known UNSC vehicle. This set has been sold-out and discontinued for around two years now, and now sells for over triple its original retail price! If you want the Halo Mega Bloks Scorpion in its traditional tan color, you’ll have to pay an average of $105-$115.

Halo Mega Bloks ODST Covenant Invasion 96853 Box3. ODST Covenant Invasion 96853

…But if you want to get yourself a UNSC Scorpion in a weird ODST steel/grey color, it’ll cost you even more. The ODST Covenant Invasion 98653 was exclusive to Toys R Us stores, and was seriously limited. I only saw this set at my local Toys R Us once–ever. It’s easy to see why this set remains popular and valuable today. This set combines some generic ODST figures, a limited repaint of the difficult-to-acquire Scorpion, and what will be the only release of the Covenant Vampire until this summer! This Halo Mega Bloks ODST Covenant Invasion set has been consistently expensive for years, and is holding tight to its average selling price of $110-$150.

Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Pelican Dropship 96824 Box2. Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Pelican 96824

Coming in at #2 on this list is a set that could’ve challenged for #1 just a few months ago–the UNSC Pelican! The humongous gunship of the UNSC, the Pelican came with a trio of yellow Spartan figures  including a popular yellow Hayabusa figure. For whatever reason, 96824 was never especially hot at retail–in fact, many stores started discounting the set just to clear it from the stores as late as early 2012. But once you couldn’t easily grab the Halo Mega Bloks Pelican anymore, demand went through the roof. While the set was selling for as much as ~$300 just a few months ago, you can now pick it up for $115-$160 after the reveal of the Summer 2013 light-up UNSC Pelican (though I honestly thing this original model looks better than the new one).

Halo Mega Bloks Forward Unto Dawn 97117 Signature Series Set Box1. Halo Mega Bloks Forward Unto Dawn 97117

Yeah, I know. Lame, right? By virtue of the fact that its MSRP is vastly higher than the value of any other Halo Mega Bloks set, the Halo Mega Bloks Forward Unto Dawn earns the top honors on this list. But hey, at least the top spot on the list goes to one of the most impressive and amazing Halo Mega Bloks vehicles ever, right? The first set ever in the Halo Mega Bloks Signature Series, the Halo Mega Bloks Forward Unto Dawn includes the best Master Chief Mega Bloks figure ever, a light-up Cortana, and is another Toys R Us exclusive. But the set comes at a heavy price–$215-$290 shipped depending on where you buy it and from home.

So there you have it, Halo fans! The Top 10 Most Expensive Halo Mega Bloks sets ever! Which ones do you think will rise in value, and which do you think will fall out of this list? Leave a reply and let me know your thoughts!

Halo Mega Bloks: The Top 10 Most Expensive Sets — 13 Comments

  1. Luckily I got in on the ground floor when they started making Halo MB and managed to score everything on this list at retail or lower (some I even have multiples of). I ended up with four Pelican’s largely due to my desire to mod it to make it more game-accurate. Love the Halo MB!

  2. I think the RocketHog will rise in price since:
    1) It’s the only one sold at a convention
    2) It’s one out of only 2 sets to contain an Arbiter
    3) It’s also one out of only 2 Rocket Warthogs
    3) It’s ALSO one out of only 2 sets with a purple Energy Sword
    4) And let us not forget the packaging.
I expect this shit to go up to 1,000 dollars!

  3. Ther are actually 3 sets with purple energy sword: covenant phantom, rockethog, and elite ultra drop pod

  4. Can you do a 2013/2014 redo? I think this list is deserving of one, especially with the Mammoth and the Pelican Gunship at retail.

  5. I have the original scorpion but lost the guys and their guns. But I still have the tank and instructions.

  6. I have a halo fest warthog for sell if someone is looking for one. It even has an autograph from one of the guys from 343 on it

  7. I have the original scorpion, warthog, ghost, and hornet in original packaging still if anyone’s interested. Always planned on building them never got around to it.
