After having to deal in guesswork and suppositions all summer, while having to stare at the same unfinished Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Mammoth 97174, all of that detective work is at an end! This weekend, the Canadian Toys R Us website finally officially confirmed the impending release of the next Mega Bloks Halo Signature Series vehicle–the Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Mammoth 97174!

The UNSC Mammoth 97174 Halo Mega Bloks set is appropriately, well… mammoth. The set is going to be an enormous 19″ long (more than a foot and a half), as well as being 9″ high. Make no mistake, this is one big land vehicle.

How big is it? Well, it’s been scaled such that this UNSC Mammoth can fit an entire UNSC Night Ops Gausshog vehicle inside of its vehicle bay! That may not sound all that exciting in words, but when you can lower the ramp and roll a fully-armed Mega Bloks Gausshog out of your Signature Series UNSC Mammoth, you are going to have one monstrously huge smile on your face.

While the prototype box art that’s been floating around for months showed the UNSC Mammoth coming with six figures, the actual set will only include four regular sized Halo Mega Bloks figures: a Spartan Recruit, a Spartan Operator, a Marine, and the new Commander Lasky figure! Since McFarlane Toys cancelled their Halo 4 Lasky figure, this will be the first time Thomas Lasky has even been produced as an action figure by any toy company.

The Marine figure that comes with Mega Bloks 97174 looks very similar to the one from the Cauldron Clash set, so that’s sort of “ehn”, but both of the new Spartan figures look terrific. Steel Spartans are always hugely popular, so hopefully the new Steel Spartan Recruit figure and Steel Spartan Operator figures help push the sales of this immense (and immensely expensive) Halo Mega Bloks set. Plus, both the Operator Spartan armor and Recruit Spartan armor permutations are otherwise only available with the UNSC Pelican and UNSC Hornet vs. Covenant Vampire sets respectively in 2013.

In addition to the four Halo Mega Bloks figures included, there’s also an all-new properly scaled light-up Roland A.I. figure included as well! The light-up Halo Mega Bloks Cortana that came with the UNSC Forward Unto Dawn Signature Series set last year was one of the best selling points of that set, and while Roland is nowhere near as recognizable and popular as Cortana, I still love being able to have a Halo 4 Roland figure for the very first (and most likely only) time.

And for even more play value, the Halo Mega Bloks Signature Series UNSC Mammoth features a removable hull and multiple interior compartments, just like last year’s Forward Unto Dawn. Thanks to these features, you can accurately recreate Halo 4 Mission 5: Reclaimer (which, by the way, was among my absolute favorite levels in the Halo 4 video game).
