We haven’t heard anything about it for the better part a year, so I honestly thought that the Halo Universe Mega Bloks Metal Series 2 had been cancelled. But with the sudden appearance of a new vehicle it seems that the line isn’t over yet!
The Halo Universe Mega Bloks Metal Series Covenant Wraith 96964 was part of the second wave of the Metal Series line, which was seemingly put on hiatus after Series 1 wasn’t a smashing success at retail. But this fall, without any fanfare whatsoever, the Metal Series Wraith unexpectedly showed up on auction from the UK!
For the longest time it appeared that the Covenant Wraith Metal Series vehicle would only be found internationally, but the vehicle has now been sighted at some Toys R Us stores, and even Amazon has some of the Metal Series Wraith now in-stock! As this is very likely the last product that will be released in the Halo Metal Series, it’s likely that it wasn’t produced in large quantities and isn’t going to be available nearly as commonly as the prior Metal Series releases.
The Wraith is the second vehicle in the large-boxed line of Metal Series toys, with the UNSC Scorpion released in spring 2012 being the first. The Covenant Wraith is largely composed of die-cast metal and features a working plasma cannon that can really fire a plasma missile (not made of actual plasma, obviously).
The figures in this set are all-new and not released in any of the previous sets, which is very exciting (particularly given how many times the figures in Metal Series 1 were reused). The Halo Mega Bloks Metal Series 96964 comes with four miniature Halo figures: a die-cast silver Spartan Mark VI figure, a red Combat Elite figure to pilot the Wraith, a red Elite Combat figure to act as the gunner, and best of all–a Brute Chieftain swinging the Gravity Hammer! I’m a sucker for Gravity Hammers, so the Brute Chieftain figure is probably the highlight of the entire set for me.
The Covenant Wraith Halo Universe Metal Series 96964 is now available, so if you’re collecting this subset of Halo toys, keep your eyes peeled for this potential final release in the line.
I never really understood the Halo Universe line. The figures look so ugly. I’m not suprised they haven’t sold well.
