One of the few 2012 Halo Mega Bloks sets that I hadn’t picked up yet was the UNSC Countdown 97017 Set, featuring the UNSC Sabre with Gantry. At a stiff $99.99 retail price (~$108 with tax), I hadn’t been able to fit that one into my budget just yet. But Amazon currently has the set on sale for just $71.99 with no tax and free shipping, the single best deal I’ve seen on the Halo Mega Bloks Sabre set so far!
The UNSC Sabre was a new UNSC vehicle that debuted in Halo Reach back in 2010. Players were able to fly in space and attack Covenant vessels for the first time, making this one of the most anticipated Halo Mega Bloks sets ever (especially since collectors had to wait almost two years to get it!). In order to be selected for production by MEGA Brands, this set had to win the Fan Choice Poll vote at HaloFest.
The Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Countdown 97017 includes a whopping 1,241 pieces. At $71.99, that’s less than 6 cents per piece! I can’t imagine we’re going to see the Mega Bloks Sabre set discounted any lower than that for a long, long time.
This Halo Mega Bloks Sabre and Gantry set includes six Halo figures including a UNSC Spartan Mark V[B], a Spartan Grenadier, two UNSC Marines, and all-new UNSC Sergeant and Technician figures. The UNSC Sergeant could almost fit into your collection as famous Halo Trilogy Sergeant Johnson, except that this figure is Caucasian instead of African American. There’s currently no African American version of this figure revealed by MEGA Brands, so customizers may want to kitbash the UNSC Sergeant figure in this set into Sgt. Johnson themselves.
You can check out the super-sale on the Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Countdown 97017 set right here, but I suspect a deal like this isn’t going to last more than a few days, so if you want this set cheap, you might want to act fast.
