Kotobukiya Halo Spartans Two-Pack Photos & Pre-Order!

Considering that we are now less than six months out from the release of Halo 5, you would think we’d be positively rolling in news, announcements and teaser photos for upcoming Halo toys. But, well… we’re not. Things have been eerily quiet since McFarlane Toys put their first series of Halo 5 figures up for order in March, and even interest in Halo Mega Bloks seems to be at an all-time low. Even so, Kotobukiya is charging forward with some outstanding-looking articulated statues to fill the void–the Halo Mjolnir Mark V and Mark VI ARTFX+ Statues Two-Pack is now up for order!

Kotobukiya Halo Spartans Two-Pack Red BlueI think we can all agree that the world needs more Halo collectibles, so I for one am stoked to see Kotobukiya delving deep into the Halo world this year with an expanding line of ARTFX+ Statues. The Kotobukiya Master Chief ARTFX+ statue and Spartan armor packs went up for order in the winter, and now they’re joined by the most expensive entry in the line yet: a statue two-pack of a Red Mark VI Spartan and a Blue Mark V Spartan!

For those unfamiliar with this upcoming line (which is probably many folks, since not even one figure from it has shipped yet), the Japanese manufacturer Kotobukiya is now producing 1/10th scale Halo statues with limited articulation.

Traditionally, Kotobukiya’s statues have zero articulation (hence why they’re called statues), but the Halo ARTFX+ statues line will feature 10 points of articulation so that collectors can get their Spartans into a variety of poses. And, you know–army-building would be a little bizarre if every Spartan would be stuck in the same pose forever, after all.

The Chief–and the rest of the Spartans–will clock in at an impressive 8″ tall size each. These Kotobukiya Halo figures are going to tower over the McFarlane Toys Halo figures that have come before them!

Each figure will feature a base tech suit from which you can remove some or all of the armor pieces. That means that if you want to give the Master Chief blue legs or a red Mark VI Spartan head, you can do so. The armor will be totally compatible across the entire line. And unlike the McFarlane Spartans, Kotobukiya is going all the way with over 20 pieces of removable armor per Spartan! Yowza!

Kotobukiya Halo Spartan Mark VI Red Armor Pieces with Energy SwordThe Spartans DX two-pack will contain two different Halo ARTFX+ figures/statues with full sets of armor: a red Mark VI Spartan (with a blue visor!), and a blue Mark V Spartan. Both 8″ Spartans will include an Energy Sword and a Magnum, and you can swap any of the armor pieces from figure to figure (if you’re into that).

Kotobukiya isn’t a low-end producer like McFarlane Toys and MEGA Brands, so these are going to be some of the best-looking and high-quality Halo figures ever made. I thought I was getting a tad burned out on Spartans, but man–these look good!

Honestly, I was taken aback when I heard about this set–and saw its monstrous $140 price-tag. I really have a hard time understanding why Koto thought it would be a good idea to package two ~$75 statues together and drop the price $10, as it’s very likely going to end up hurting the sales for these statues a lot.

I’ll buy them–but I’m a hardcore Halo collector. I don’t know how many more casual Halo fans will be willing to drop that chunk of change on one purchase, no matter how cool it may be.

Halo Red Mark VI Spartan ARTFX+ Statue KotobukiyaThe Halo Kotobukiya ARTFX+ series of statues are now available for order online, with an expected release date in November 2015-January 2016. I decided to get my pre-order for this set in early, as there is the possibility of it selling out in the pre-order stage once Halo 5 mania sweeps the world this fall.

What do you think of this Halo Mark V & Mark VI two-pack, Halo collectors?
