Last week, I gave my comprehensive thoughts on the three mass-release McFarlane Toys Halo 4 Series 3 figures which are due to hit stores very, very soon. But I mentioned in that article that there was a previously-unannounced exclusive figure in this wave as well–and so there is! Coming to everyone’s favorite toy retailer this winter–it’s the Walgreens Exclusive Spartan Soldier Halo 4 Series 3 figure!
Back in the glory days of the McFarlane Toys Halo figure line–almost half a decade ago now–we used to get an insane number of retailer exclusive colored variant Spartans within each wave of figures. Many of my all-time favorite Halo figures, such as the Orange Hayabusa Spartan and Steel Security Spartan were exclusives.
Sadly, those days are behind us. The past few years, we’ve been lucky to get more figures released in a year than we have fingers on one hand.
But all is not lost–at least, not entirely! While we won’t be getting a whole battalion of exclusive Halo figures this year, we can “look forward” to heading back to Walgreens stores (*groan*) to hunt for the one exclusive set for Halo 4 Wave 3: a Brick Red Spartan Soldier with white secondary details and a Battle Rifle weapon.
As far as Spartans go, this isn’t the most compelling repaint ever, but the white designs on the red armor of the Spartan Soldier action figure do look really nice. And the fact that the Spartan Soldier mold is only being used in this series for the exclusive figure does make the exclusive feel at least as a little bit special, right?
The Halo 4 Series 3 Red Spartan Soldier figure is scheduled to be released exclusively at Walgreens stores in late February 2015. I’ll post an update here and to the Halo Toy News Facebook Page once the Walgreens Spartan Soldier exclusive figure turns up in stores, and you can ‘Like’ Halo Toy News on Facebook to have news and photos beamed right to your Facebook Newsfeed.
Are you interested in the exclusive Halo 4 Series 3 Spartan Soldier, Halo fans? Or has the dearth of new McFarlane Toys released in the past few years caused you to lose interest in the line altogether?
This is the first figure I’ve actually been excited about in a while, but I hate having to go to Walgreens to hunt for stuff…
good to hear!
Any Halo toy new is good news. I’m not a fan of Walgreens exclusives but at least they’re putting something out. Now that they’re making a Thorne figure, I’d love to see a repaint as the campaign version Spartan Recruit.
Always thought the soldier armor was hideous.
I think that even though i strongly dislike the soldier armor in general, these color combos make it look lovely (you get what I mean) and I’m not too upset about the exclusive, because my local walgreens gets the new Halo figures about when they are released and in pretty large quantities. 😀
Valentine’s Day spartan
awful. would rather have plain steel exclusives back.
Oh good. Another exclusive to a store we don’t have in my area.
When are you going to talk about the Toy Fair??
Hmmmm seems ok wish they would use a different mold but will add it to my collection!
You know what really gets me? McFarlane made us wait about half a year for new Halo figures while they catered to sports fans, Assassin’s Creed fans, Rabbids fans, and Walking Dead fans. Then, when they finally announced new figures, they were all repaints with the exception of one. Then they go and do this. Pretty much the one figure that’s worth getting in this wave and it’s an exclusive to an obscure store which doesn’t even exist everywhere in the world. Fuck you McFarlane. I’m going with Bandai and Neca.
