Considering that the Halo 5: Guardians video game hits stores in one month and the first wave of McFarlane Toys Halo 5 figures already arrived at retail this summer, many fans have been wondering when we’ll learn the makeup of the next wave. Well, wonder no longer: the McFarlane Halo 5 Series 2 figures are now up for order! But, well… those hoping for a lot of unique characters may be disappointed…
I had high hopes that the second series of Halo 5: Guardians action figures was going to complete Blue Team and Fire Team Osiris with the three remaining team members: Spartan Buck, Spartan Linda and Spartan Vale.
But, well… I guess we’re going to have to settle for one out of three. After getting two female figures in the first wave, we’re getting zero in the second: Spartan Buck is the sole new unique character in McFarlane Toys Halo 5 Wave 2.
Jameson Buck, Nathan Fillion’s character from the Halo video game series, is one of the most popular named Spartans and was basically a guarantee to headline this set.
Halo 3: ODST is my favorite first-person Halo game, so I am definitely pleased to see Buck making his third action figure appearance (he was previously released both helmeted and unhelmeted).
I am, however, considerably bummed out by the fact that the remainder of this wave is composed solely of three generic multiplayer Spartans: a blue Spartan Helljumper, a green Spartan Hermes and a red Spartan Athlon.
The case assortment for Guardians Wave 2 is as follows:
(3) Spartan Buck
(2) Spartan Hermes — Green/Gold
(2) Spartan Helljumper — Blue/Steel
(1) Spartan Athlon — Red
It makes sense to pack Buck heavily, since he’s going to be far more popular than the generic multiplayer characters that make up the rest of this series, so I’ve got no problem with the case ratios here. This way, everyone who wants a Buck Spartan will get one. And as for the red Athlon, well–I suspect that’ll be the least-popular 6″ figure in this series anyway.
Even so, it’s distressing that we’re not only not getting any Covenant or Promethean figures in this wave, but we’re not even getting the last members necessary to complete Fireteam Osiris and Blue Team! McFarlane Toys has seemingly given up on making enemy characters, but if we don’t at least see Linda and Olympia Vale announced in the near-future, I’m going to be one very frustrated collector.
The Halo 5 McFarlane Toys Series 2 figures are now available for pre-order as individuals or as a complete set, and are scheduled to be released in February 2016. Yes, sadly we’re going to have to wait until after the holidays for the next wave of Halo Guardians figures. Sigh!
How do you feel about the character selection for this second wave of Halo 5: Guardians action figures, collectors? Are you satisfied with Buck and some multiplayer Spartans, or were you hoping to see Vale, Linda… and maybe some enemy figures? Will you be purchasing any or all of this wave?
Wow! Extremely disappointed in how long we have to wait for this too… long are days of old when Mcfarlane had new series coming out every other month. Also I am a hardcore collector of the main characters so I’m sad that we have no visual confirmation of Linda and Vale yet either… I HOPE Mcfarlane hears me out and makes them in scale!
(Kelly and Tanaka have the female body proportions but the SCALE is incredibly annoying to me. Both their heads and chests are bigger and wider than Chief’s and Lockes… making the “male” spartans look like teenage boys. I strangely fear that whoever designed the spartan females passed on the manufacturing to someone else who might have thought “Hmm, these figures are small… im gonna up the scale by 10%”
“Jameson Buck”!? You do mean Edward Buck correct?
No Covenant whatsoever? Like, seriously!?
I’m extremely surprised that we aren’t getting the Arbiter yet or any covenant and even the brand new Promethean Soldiers. I would’ve thought with those (Arbiter/Soldiers) being big points of interest for the fans, it would be wise to release them as figures early to get more people into this line before all interest for the Halo figures McFarlane are releasing dies off completely.
Someone at McFarlane toys is making some really poor decisions or they just don’t care and prefer to take the easy road with the Spartan armour rather than all the extravagant covenant or Prometheans.
But . . . . . Even though we only have 4 figures now, the first line did show 6 but 3 of them were kept in secret until nearing the release date. Yes they did have silhouettes and we knew there was 6 from the beginning but I’ll hold out a small bit of hope that this line is yet to have 2 more figures revealed before it’s release. I would say that the exclusives for this series might save it but they’re just going to be different colours of these armours and maybe an un-helmeted Buck.
Time will tell, keep us posted Dabid.
What I REALLY want is a Halo 5 Hunter!
But if we’re getting all these repaints (Buck, then generic Spartan in Nightfall armour), then maybe we should get a Game/GameStop/EB Games exclusive HUNTER armour (Locke’s armour). After all, the armour is exclusive in-game to those shops.
I’m not usually into McFarlane, but I can certainly understand the disappointment that you guys have with this line. Buck is really cool, but if he’s it, I see this not working out very well. Also, no Covies or Promies? This really surprises me.
Also, Buck’s first name is Edward. Locke’s first name is Jameson. 😉
This probably the half of series as only half of series one was seen initially
It’s Edward Buck, not Jameson. Jameson is Locke’s first name
I fully agree with this, very disappointed at how lazy Mcfarlane has become. He keeps buying new licenses, then if they dont do well, their treated as cannon fodder. (Look at Assassins Creed) And the stupid exclusives every series dont help either. It seems like all Mcfarlane cares for is the Walking Dead line. Still these $15 figures are miles ahead for ThreeA’s Master Chief. Worst Halo figure ever created, I bet the Jakks Pacific Chief is better.
Also Dabid, do you plan on getting the Trifoce plasma rifles? I have a few of the Gears weapons from them and I was very disappointed in the quality, especially for the price. Just wondering if you had thought about getting one. The NECA needler looks cool but should have been cheaper than it is.
Honestly, I wish McFarlane would just let someone else have the Halo license- y’know, a company that can afford better quality plastic and better toy engineering. I mean, Halo figures have looked great from day 1 and their paint apps have always been well done, but they’ve almost always been plagued with poseability issues, innumerable quality control problems, and distinctly poor plastic, all of which have only gotten worse as time went on. Comparing Halo 3 SPARTAN figures to the Halo 5 offerings is heartbreaking because even with these issues the Halo 3 figures were solid, poseable, fun figures- but I can’t even get Locke in a decent firing position. If I wanted a well-painted figure that couldn’t move, I’d buy a statue. Halo has the potential to produce a truly blockbuster line of action figures, but McFarlane is content to putter along with truly mediocre offerings. I KNOW they can do better, so seeing this is really sad.
Oh, and his name is Eddie Buck. Did you get him mixed up with Jameson Locke?
Edward Buck, Dabid. Edward Buck. 🙂
I am done with Mcfarlane halo figs they are trash and they really don’t care what the fans want at all . they gave us the bare minimum the past few years , and not because they wanted to but because they had to to keep the license . Mchalo toys died a long time ago long live halo mega bloks
Bucks first name is Edward, and this is his second action figure. His first action figure you can have either helmeted or helmetless.
Needless to say I am very disappointed that we are not getting Linda, Vale, or Thel yet.
“but we’re not even getting the last members necessary to complete …, I’m going to be one very frustrated collector.”
That reminds me of Romeo!
We need Linda, Vale AND Romeo!!!
Im an avid collector as well. I don’t understand why target gets exclusives still, or Walgreens. And I am also disappointed with no covenant/promethean characters. But the game has yet to release so there is still time. I don’t think they would only have 4 in a set after releasing 10.
Isn’t there a chance for them to reveal more figures in series 2? They didn’t reveal all of them for series 1 first time around. Plus series 1 had 10 figures, half of which were exclusive. So I have a feeling they will reveal 6 more figures later, some exclusives but maybe a chance for Vale, Linda, or Thel.
Also, while too keen on that MP Helljumper, I do think the gold visor helmet is pretty nifty looking.
To my knowledge, McFarlane Toys has never released a unique character as an exclusive (and no, un-helmeted versions of characters in the main line don’t count). If we’re getting Vale, Linda, and so forth they won’t be in Series 2.
Series 1 contained at least 8 figures, so it’s safe to say we haven’t seen the entire Series 2 as of yet.
I am personally hoping to see Linda, but if she ain’t in Series 2 then I’d be slightly annoyed.
I would say the chances of Linda showing up as a single-packed store exclusive in Series 2 are exactly zero, unfortunately. McFarlane Toys has never released a unique character as a store exclusive, and they’re not gonna start with a main character.
I’m sure there will be a couple exclusives in Series 2–but they’ll almost certainly just be repainted Spartans and MAYBE a couple of unhelmeted Spartans if we’re lucky.
why can’t wet have an arbiter, he looks badass in halo 5 abbs he’s the only character im interested in having right now other than olympia vale and a helioskrill spartan, (sangheili master race)
