For years, McFarlane Toys has been deeply entrenched in producing almost exclusively 5-6″ figures for the Halo toy line. While a McFarlane 12″ Master Chief and a pair of Spartans were released in the infancy of the Halo 3 figure line, they sold poorly and the scale was quickly axed. But with the humongous push coming for the Halo 5: Guardians video game, the time is nigh to go large again: the McFarlane Spartan Locke Deluxe 12″ figure is now up for order!
There was exactly one new McFarlane Toys Halo figure on display at New York Toy Fair 2015: a prototype of a 12″ Agent Locke figure from Halo 5. I didn’t have the opportunity to talk to any of the McFarlane Toys reps about the figure and didn’t get many good photos of the figure through the lit-up display case, so I didn’t really mention the figure here then.
Over the course of the past three months, I actually sort of forgot about that McFarlane Agent Locke figure–but not anymore! Out of nowhere, the 12″ Spartan Locke McFarlane Toys figure has now appeared up for order! The official product description for the figure is below:
“The hunt for Master Chief continues with Spartan Locke. This highly detailed Halo 5 Guardians Spartan Locke Deluxe Figure is ready for action in his sleek blue chrome armor with illuminating blue accents. This game-accurate plastic figure measures about 12-inches tall x 9 1/5-inches wide x 4-inches long, and includes a dynamic battle rifle and an alternate arm to create Spartan Locke’s leadership pose. Tying directly into the Halo 5: Guardians gameplay, the Spartan Locke deluxe figure also will be packaged with a downloadable code for in-game content.”
Now, the one thing that stuck out to me as being very odd about this description is the mention of “an alternate arm to create Spartan Locke’s leadership pose”. If this was a regular McFarlane Toys Halo figure, all we would need to create the “leadership pose” would be an alternate hand. The fact that this Locke figure requires a whole other alternate arm to do that pose gives me suspicions that this might actually be a statue rather than a traditional super-articulated action figure.
Based off of the NY Toy Fair 2015 photos of the figure, it certainly looks like this Agent Jameson Locke Spartan figure isn’t going to have any points of articulation at all, now does it? This seems like a weird choice, but it may be what’s necessary in order to keep the figure affordable with a $39.99 price tag.
The Spartan Locke 12″ figure is now available for pre-order (at a pre-order price of $32!), and is scheduled to be released in October 2015 (not coincidentally the release month for the Halo 5 video game). With the immense hype surrounding Halo 5’s release, could this Jameson Locke figure turn out to be a surprise early sell-out…?
Based off of our first looks at the McFarlane Halo 5 Agent a Locke 12″ figure, what do you think, Halo collectors? Is this a figure that you’ve got your eye on adding to your collection, or are you taking a wait-and-see attitude on the largest-announced Spartan Locke figure?
This is clearly a statue. If it’s locked in one position, it’s a statue. It’s a pretty statue, but a statue nonetheless. I don’t care if they throw in an alternate arm for one other pose, this should in no way be called a figure. Greatly disappointed. I’ll be passing on this one.
Thanks for the update Dabid, although I should mention this will be 10″ not 12″!
I knew this was a statue from the start, you don’t see any joints! Btw the regular 6 inch Locke figure looks amazing and I’ll probably buy that guy 😀
PS. I’ve been asking for a while now, where is the Spartan Thorne review!?!? Please please please review him, I wanna know if he matches Spartan Soldier (Paul Demarco’s) color…
Thorne and the unofficial DeMarco can look good together, if the lighting isn’t great. Thorne is a little lighter and DeMarco doesn’t have the white decals, so they don’t match perfectly.

I hope Fireteam Majestic are in Halo 5, so McFarlane can make a 5-figure pack, although one certain member dies before Halo 5, so I’m not sure how that would be achieved.
It’s a 10″ statue. Out of scale from all previous releases, out of articulation from all that made McFarlane famous. Oh how far McFarlane has fallen. I’ll still support their 6″ lines though.
Wut…? I can see a knee joint in that Toy Fair picture. You guys really can’t see it?
I think this will be like the Deluxe Didact figure – a statue-esque piece with very, VERY limited articulation – but articulation nonetheless. I think they’ve oversold the alternate arm bonus simply to justify the “Deluxe” tag on this figure – the Deluxe Didact featured changeable heads, the Deluxe Knight featured a storage space for the Watcher figure, the Deluxe Cryotube featured a hinged container and a frozen Chief, etc. All of their Deluxe figures seem to have advertised “action feature” like this and I’m sure the only one they could manage with Spartan Locke is an extra arm for his “leader pose”. Which works out nicely, because Spartan-IV shoulder armor has never been particularly flexible in terms of shoulder articulation, allowing them a nice little workaround for that issue. It’s dumb, but I think that’s the story here. I say this because, like I said, I see a knee joint on this Locke figure in one of the above pictures. And because even the jumbo Didact figure featured some albeit limited articulation.
This is also noteworthy, I’ll just leave it here: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/community/blog-posts/all-new-spartan-locke-figure-by-mcfarlane-toys
Cheers!
I can easily see articulation.
Look behind the shoulder in the close-up, and you can see a ball joint. The second pic of the prototype, look at the front knee, and you can see a ring on his shoulder for a hinge joint. You can also see thigh swivels and wrist joints if you look close enough. I bet that they included the extra arm to give it a more seamless look when not bent, as the joints on McFarlane’s halo figures can be very noticeable when not bent at all. Hope this helps 🙂
Reminder: Just because I say this doesn’t mean that I am definitively right or wrong, so feel free to correct me if I am.
If anyone has Mcfarlanes 10 inch Walking Dead “figures” it’s probably the same.
The 10 inch Rick for example had 2 different poses it could get using 2 interchangeable arms. One arm extended with his revolver, and another arm to hold his rifle on his shoulder. The only articulation it had was swivels on the elbows.
If they wanted to make a larger articulated figure, they would have just upscaled the 6 inch figures. This is meant to be a statue for people at a cheaper price range.
A Lot of dremel work and then fitting to a 12″ figure will TURN it into a Action figure. Had to do that (dremel hollow the armour and fit to an actual 12″ Articulated figure) with their 12″ Master Chief/Spartans as articulation was poor on those figures/
You can actually see several articulation points on the second picture, possibly even more than the newer 6″ figures, depending on the amount of hip articulation. If it does have more articulation, that would be fantastic!
Do you know if this will be sold in stores like Target? I desperately want to know if the scale on this Locke matches the Kotobukiya ArtFX Master Chief… I’m trying to build a display with these two instead of buying the LCE Halo 5… Please let me know! (Do a review of this guy asap 🙂 )
