In a hugely disappointing turn of events, it appears that the Halo Universe line of action figures by McFarlane Toys has been cancelled. Both McFarlane Toys Online Customer Service and the Glendale, Arizona McFarlane retail store are telling inquiring consumers that Halo Universe Series 1 single-packed figure series has been cancelled and is not expected to be released in the future at this time. The series was scheduled to include a Halo Ring “Build-A-Figure”, an item that quite a few fans were excited about. The Halo Universe imprint includes all of the 5″ scale action figures from every Halo video game except for Halo 4. The Halo 4 line does not appear to be impacted by this cancellation at all.
Collectors had been looking forward to Halo Universe Series 1 since it was unveiled in the beginning of 2012, but there had been little news from McFarlane Toys since its announcement, and now we know why. The cancellation of this particular line is a big loss for Halo fans, as the fall 2012 Halo Universe Series 1 assortment was set to include the first Elite Commando action figure, as well as Romeo–the final ODST necessary to complete the beloved ODST Squad from the Halo 3: ODST video game. This is the first time that McFarlane Toys has ever cancelled unique Halo characters, although they have previously scrapped different armor and color permutations of various Spartans and Elites.
The ODST Drop Pod with The Rookie action figure released last month was the last Halo Universe product released, although it’s almost certain that the scheduled Halo 3 Campaign Co-Op Multipack revealed a few weeks ago will still be released. Given that the basic figure mold for the “Halo Legends: The Package” Spartans 3-Pack with Master Chief, Frederic-104, and Kelly-087 already exists, it seems pretty likely that that Halo Universe multipack will also see a release.
It’s possible that McFarlane Toys could still release the Romeo figure in a Halo ODST boxed set with other ODSTs (or dare I say it–an Engineer), but that’s all just speculation at this instant. The Elite Commando and Brute Captain Major could also find their way into release through some avenue, though those characters are much less necessary for completion purposes and are in far less demand than Romeo.
We’ll update with more news on the fate of the Halo Universe line by McFarlane Toys as they release information about it.
Damn!! No Romeo!
No Romeo! WTF I just started collecting ODST and have them all except Dare and Romeo. This really sucks what the hell.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
HAD ALL THE ODST BUT ROMEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, this is a dissapointment. I was looking forward to these for a while now. I got into collecting Halo figures during series 2 of Reach. I have been playing Halo since ODST came out. I was looking forward to getting that Brute for my Halo 3 collection I’m starting. Oh well…
If/when McFarlane releases a Romeo figure, or an ODST bundle, it would be cool if they came with something from the campaign, besides their weapons. For instance, Romeo would have a bent sniper rifle as well as another sniper, or Romeo would come with a bio foam canister.
Wouldn’t it be cool if McFarlane did blind bag Spartans? but scaled down to be more affordable.
This is just Mc’farlane toys not making any sense at all. I have all the ODST’s from the game beside Romeo, the excuse for the cancellation is just pathetic. I’m actually really hating Mc’farlane even more after reading this, his consideration for fans of his lines boarders on taking the piss.
GODDAMMIT!!!!! I’ve been collecting these figures since they issued them, for Halo 3! I still have the first one I got of the Master Chief and now they decide to cancel it?!! What the hell MC’FARLANE!!!??
