McFarlane Toys 2013 Halo 4 Series 2 Figures Prototype Photos!

Along with the expected release of the “Halo Legends: The Package” three-pack of action figures last week by McFarlane Toys, we also got something unexpected–our first glimpse of the actual prototypes from McFarlane Halo 4 Series 2 and Halo Micro Ops Series 2! Member twgss4b14cĀ  over on the HaloFigures forum already received his “The Package” three-pack in the mail from Amazon, and he was kind enough to give us photos to share of the initial Halo 4 2013 series…

McFarlane Toys 2013 Halo Legends The Package Three Pack Box Back

We first heard about this Halo 4 Series 2 action figure assortment by McFarlane Toys in the fall, but up until now we’ve only seen some rendered screenshots of the characters that would be included in the series. With the now-expected delay of McFarlane Halo 4 Series 2 into fall 2013, I wasn’t certain we’d see prototypes for a few months, but thanks to the Halo Legends Spartans three-pack, we have early figure prototype photos to drool over!

The Master Chief doesn’t look like anything special from the prototype photos–just the same old Master Chief we all already have one (or three) of. The handheld Micro Cortana figure he comes with though is a must-have accessory, though, and along with the first McFarlane Toys scaled release of the Railgun, is going to force me to purchase yet another Master Chief figure (though I don’t particularly want to).

McFarlane Toys Halo 4 Series 2 Orange Spartan Scout Figure 2013 The Master Chief is joined by two new Halo 4 Spartans in McFarlane Series 2: an orange Spartan Scout and a purple Spartan CIO! While we’ve had orange Spartans and Spartan Scout figures before (and even orange Spartan Scout figures) from McFarlane Toys, this will be the first-ever non-exclusive orange Spartan included in a basic Halo figures assortment. He comes with the Sticky Detonator weapon previously only released with the UNSC Cryotube, although I’m disappointed that the prototype is lacking the white stripes prevalent on the artwork McFarlane Toys previously sent out. Without the white stripes, the orange Scout Spartan really ends up looking rather plain.

The purple CIO Spartan is both the first release ever by McFarlane Toys of the CIO armor permutation, as well as the first non-exclusive release of a purple Spartan in a basic Halo figures series. The Spartan CIO helmet is one of my favorite Halo 4 helmets, and I can always use another DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) in my collection.

On the Covenant side, we’re getting Elite Ranger and Storm Jackal action figures. The Storm Jackal has the redesigned Halo 4 Covenant Carbine as a weapon (though the original artwork released depicted him with a Plasma Pistol), while the Elite Ranger figure has the radically redesigned Halo 4 Beam Rifle. While we did get an Elite Ranger action figure toward the end of the Halo Reach line, this version is so differentiated from that one that I definitely don’t mind buying another. And the Storm Jackal figure, well–he’s totally different from any Covenant Jackal toy you’ve ever had before. I don’t know that I necessarily like the re-imagined Halo 4 Jackals, but they’re unquestionably different.

Finally, Commander Thomas Lasky rounds out the set. The McFarlane UNSC uniformed officers tend to be some of their weaker Halo figures, but Lasky (famous from the “Halo: Forward Unto Dawn” series) looks to be pretty decent, and I really like his working holster than can store his Magnum, a real rarity in the Halo McFarlane Toys line.

Sharp-eyed readers will also notice that the Red Spartan Warrior from Halo 4 Series 1 is pictured with the Series 2 photos. It’s possible that figure will be reissued as part of McFarlane Toys Halo 4 Series 2, but I doubt it–I think it’s much more likely that figure is just photographed to fill space on the back of the package. The only way I can see the Red Warrior Spartan shipping again is if he ships one-per-case as well as the purple CIO Spartan (which was previously solicited to ship at two-per-case).

Halo 4 Series 2 is available for pre-order online right now for both individual figures and complete sets.

  1. The spartan warrior pictured has grey stripes and an assault rifle. It does look like the armor skin for the warrior armor. I’m definitely getting the spartan CIO and elite ranger. I’ll have to wait until we get some finalized pics of the jackal, though.

    • I just saw what you said about the CIO figure as I was submitting the previous comment. It sound’s like we are in the same boat concerning it! I just hope the release it with the WEB armor skin sometime down the line. Would love it if amazon made it their exclusive, because the skin was their pre-order exclusive for the game. Unless, of course, we get an entire series composed of the pre-order exclusives.

  2. This Spartan Warrior is shown with an assault rifle instead of a sniper rifle. So this could be a new figure.

  3. there is no way I am not getting the Jackal Storm figure, I’ve been waiting for a good jackal figure since the new jackals were announced!!!

  4. I hope these come out sooner then fall. Entertainment Earth changed their release date from January to February, and Amazon says they will be released February 28th. I’ve een holding out for this Master Chief.

    • That might me the case because it was thought to be that the knight was coming out in march but it didn’t

    • iv seen a few places saying february 28th, but Bigbadtoys say september, and toywiz just says sold out. im hoping that the 28th is going to be the big day. however i feel like we would have seen a little more if they where coming out this month.

  5. A week ago i sent Mcfarlane a message on Facebook asking about the delay and they confirmed it but that would be so awesome if something happened and they are coming out a lot sooner but i just spent my money i was saving for series 2 on the die cast jada vehicles so i hope i have money!

  6. I’m pretty new to collecting these figures so im not sure but since amazon has it listed as February 28th does this mean they might be released in a few months?

  7. Was really hopeing the would fix Master Chief’s problems. His shoulders are too low down and don’t stick out as much as they do on the in-game model. Also, his visor should be darker and more of an orange color.

  8. being pushed back to september? at that rate there will be one series a year. what a terrible lack of productivity. šŸ™

  9. Holy crap…. They unveiled the freaking Didact for series 2 at toyfair!!! I’m guessing he’ll be a deluxe figure but this is huge!!!!! Screenshots are up on halo waypoint!!!

  10. Well it’s great that we finally have some decent images of possible final figures. I am very excited about the new Ranger and the Spartan CIO. I’ll be getting the Jackal for definite but there’s still a bit of to-and-fro whether it will include the point defense gauntlet (shield) or not?
Everyone felt upset about the major and somewhat ridiculous delay. Where we used to get a new series every 4 months or round about with the Reach line, delaying the 2nd series till the end of the year is ludicrous.
However, there is confusion as the Knight wasn’t set for release until 2013 but actually went on retail in December 2012. February 28th is definatley not the release date for these figures. I reckon it’s because of the larger Didact figure recentley announced for this line that there is quite a delay. Seeing as we already have prototype images, I’m guessing we’ll be seeing the figures a lot sooner. Hopefully around the end of March and into April to be reasonable.
