Last week, McFarlane Toys sent out a bunch of press photos of their old Halo 4 Series 2 figures prototypes that we’d already seen a million times before. Nothing to get excited about there. But–but! Todd McFarlane has also updated his official Facebook page, where he uploaded photos of what look to be the finished, final prototypes for McFarlane Toys Halo 4 Series 2–including the Unmasked Didact and a very different looking Storm Jackal…
Breathe easy, Halo collectors. Todd McFarlane has definitely confirmed, as I expected, that the Halo 4 Didact Deluxe Action Figure will in fact come packaged with both his helmeted and unmasked heads in the same package. There had been some speculation that the Unmasked Didact might be a variant and you’d have to buy the same figure twice to get the second head, but we now know for absolute certain that that isn’t the case. The huge 9″ tall deluxe The Didact McFarlane Toys figure is up for pre-order now, and should ship out in September 2013.
Meanwhile, we also got some great photos of the non-deluxe Halo 4 Wave 2 figures. The bad news is that we’re all going to have to buy the Halo 4 Master Chief figure–again.
The good news is that he comes with an all-new UNSC Railgun and a really nice handheld micro Cortana figure. I’m going to choose to think of this as buying the Cortana figure, and getting the Master Chief figure as a bonus.
Officially, this is the Violet Spartan CIO action figure. Forgive me if I slip and start calling him purple. The CIO Spartan mold looks really nice, and I imagine it’s going to look even better on the exclusive Steel/Green Spartan figure coming out in Halo 4 Series 2 that isn’t purple.
This is the first opportunity we’ve had to see the completed Orange Spartan Scout action figure. He was already my favorite figure in McFarlane Toys Halo 4 Series 2 based on the virtue of his being orange, but I actually really love the white insignias and details that have been added to the figure. And to all the Halo fans out there who say the Sticky Detonator is a terrible weapon–you people have no souls.
The Halo 4 Elite Ranger figure has some very extraterrestrial looking colors going on, but he looks too much like a deep sea underwater G.I. Joe in these colors for my liking. I much prefer the awesome Halo Reach Elite Ranger action figure from a few years back.
Finally, we have the Halo 4 Storm Jackal figure, which has changed massively since the early drawings of the figure. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what this Covenant Jackal action figure reminded me of–until I heard someone compare him to the Godzilla creatures from the 1998 Godzilla movie (Did you know the story from has a direct continuation in children’s cartoon form? It’s true!). Contrary to my initial impressions, the sculpting on this Jackal Storm figure is excellent–it’s just the colors that are appallingly off. Hopefully there’s time for McFarlane Toys to tweak the paint on this before it reaches the manufacturing stage (though I somehow doubt it).
Halo 4 Series 2 is now available for pre-order and is scheduled to ship out in September 2013. The official Halo Waypoint site scared me when they said October 2013, but Todd McFarlane himself has confirmed that it’s going to be September 2013, thankfully. I will (of course) post full reviews and photo galleries of every single figure from this series once they’re released in just a few short months (finally).

HOORAH! :p
I love all of these figures. I really want the DLC that comes with them, but I’m still figuring out how I’m gonna get the Forward Unto Dawn and still have money for the Fall 2013 line of Halo Mega Bloks. Although the Jackal has incorrect armor colors, they are so VIVID! It’s really eye-catching.
Master Chief, although I’m sure has the same molds, has a different look to him. It’s pretty cool. And it makes sense that McFarlane would have a bunch of different variations of him. The mold can only be used on him, because it’s not a Multiplayer armor. π
The Didact will be a must-have when these are released. It’s comforting to know that he is definitely coming with both heads. I’ll probably disply him with the unhelmeted head on, and either have him holding the helmet, or have it laying in the ground next to him. Either way I want to proudly display that ugly mug of his, lol.
Chief and the Jackal will be tempting. I don’t have a Halo 4 MC yet, and my Covenant ranks could use some diversity. I really like the mini Cortana that comes with Chief. Though I kinda wish he had a different gun. I like the railgun, but I would rather have my MC weilding either an AR or a BR. I’m hoping they either release a Halo 4 weapons pack, or another Spartan I want that comes with one so I can swap weapons with Chief.
I kind of want the Recon Spartan, but I’m not a big fan of that orange. The CIO aroir doesn’t look too bad, but if I get that sculpt, it’ll be the exclusive repaint (any idea where it’s going to be exclusive to?).
I’m really hoping for a Palmer figure. I’m sure hey could just repaint that Recon Spartan as her. Though I would love to see them include an unhelmeted head, like they are with the Didact. That said, they’ll probably save that for a future release, like the have with the other Spartans they’ve released unhelmeted figures of.
I dunno why, but I think it’ll be Gamestop exclusive. Don’t take my word for it, but it’s definitely possible. π
That’s what I’ve been assuming, but wasn’t sure if there was any for sure info about it’s release. I’m still kind of disappointed that they cut Lasky from this wave. I was actually planning on getting him. Hopefully they still release him at some point. His figure looked great, and his character is actually interesting. Would suck if he wasn’t made available somehow. Definitely more deserving of an action figure than Keyes was…
WOW after seeing these pictures, I want Mega Bloks to do a didact figure. But since they don’t usually do named characters, they could call him something generic like “Forerunner.” And he would have to be at least as big as a hunter or knight π
Forerunner Promethean Warrior is what I’d call it, Joe. I think he would be taller than a Knight as well. I heard that he is 12-14 feet tall. That’s big! O.O π
Yeah, the Didact is pretty huge. You can kind of compare him to Knights in the cutscene where he first comes out of the Cryptum.
does anyone know when these will be released in the uk amazon uk site does not even have them for pre order i plan on getting them all but the orange scout, scout armour is terrible and palmer wears it and she is the worst thing about halo 4. I really want the ranger and jackal and cio i hope the steel green will be available in the uk if not i guess another Β£300 will have to do.
I want all but the ranger especially the CIO and scout
Yay the ranger doesn’t look that great but I might still get it
I want all but the ranger. And I really can’t wait for the didact,CIO,and scout
The Jackal’s colors are correct, if you look closely in the game, some appear to be a very light blue/teal color.
