Well, the bad news keeps on coming for collectors of the McFarlane Halo 4 figure line. Something collectors have been speculating about for over a month now became official today. Retailers are now being informed by McFarlane Toys that the Halo 4 Series 2 Thomas Lasky Action Figure has been cancelled and will no longer ship as part of Halo 4 Series 2 in the fall…
Thomas Lasky is one of the most prominent UNSC officers ever, both in the Halo video games and the Halo books and multimedia expanded universe. Lasky is a central character in the Halo: Forward Unto Dawn miniseries, and it also featured in Karen Traviss’ (brilliant) “The Thursday War” novel. But most fans know Thomas Lasky the best for his prominent presence in the Halo 4 video game, where Lasky has a bond with the Master Chief and even defies his own commanding officer in favor of assisting the Master Chief.
Fans rejoiced when Thomas Lasky’s name showed up on the initial list of figures in McFarlane Toys Halo 4 Series 2 back in the fall. We don’t get very many UNSC officers in the McFarlane Halo line, so it was encouraging to see Lasky scheduled for release so early in the Halo 4 line. We even got to see an early prototype of the Thomas Lasky figure on the back of the box for the Halo Legends: The Package three-pack that was released in January.
When the Halo Waypoint website posted photos of all of the figures that compose McFarlane Toys’ Halo 4 Series 2 last month, many fans noted that the Lieutenant Thomas Lasky figure was conspicuous by its absence. Collectors feared that this was an indication that Thomas Lasky had been cancelled due to fear of him selling poorly (such as the Captain Jacob Keyes figure whose poor sales largely contributed to the demise of the Halo Universe figures line). It turns out that those fears were well-founded, as Thomas Lasky is officially out of Halo 4 Series 2.
Many retailers still have the Halo 4 Series 2 Set of 6 listed for sale, as well as individual listings for Lieutenant Thomas Lasky, but the figure has been removed from the assortment and the Series 2 set will instead be a set of 5 figures. It’s unknown at this time if McFarlane Toys will move the Thomas Lasky figure to another series or a multipack, or if the figure is being straight-up canned altogether. McFarlane Toys Halo 4 Series 2 action figures are available for pre-order both as individuals and as a whole case right now.
God this really sucks i feel though that it might just keep getting worse…
That…really blows. I was super looking forward to this one. 🙁
Saw that one coming. Hopefully they stick him in the Majestic box set, which I doubt. Oh wells, nevertheless we should all be grateful were getting something while it lasts.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ouch…. I was really looking forward to adding him to my collection. That definitely sucks.
Done! Time after time one let down after another; just to refresh your memory, poor articulation with all of the marines , Avery Johnson and Forge cancelling Romeo and now Lasky . Keyes could have sold better if they would have made him better. It’s been real but I am done with Halo collecting. START THE BOYCOTT !!!!!
Oh man Keye’s face is a looker isn’t it!
Wow this blows he would definitely sell he looks way better then any previous commander his uniform has armor on it we see him kick ass many different times in the halo verse why cancel him
Okay so lame multiplayer spartans keep on coming every fuckin’ year, but important characters arent?
You are so right!
but why? 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁
lasky should be cancelled but don’t need to get angry at him
sorry my brother was using the computer but the lasky figure probably was cancelled because the keyes and cortana figure got bad sales
Why should genuine collectors suffer because of poor sales? I would have brought Lasky. Heck, I even brought Keyes. What halo fan wouldn’t want Jacob Keyes in his collection? Mc’Farlane are doing everything right to piss me off.
Sorry for commenting on an old topic. I was disappointed when I first read that Lasky was removed from the series 2 assortment. Though I’m hopeful that they’ll still find a way to release him. Either as a store exclusive or in a multi-pack of some sort. If they do eventually release him, I’ll definitely get him. He’s one of my favorite characters from Halo 4, and the prototype they showed off looks great.
Anyone know if there is a petition out there in-support of the Lasky figure being made? I know they rarely work, especially for action figures, but a petition couldn’t hurt…right?
I feel you, this character was going to be the high-light of this series for me.Maybe they will take notice and reconsider the decision.
He was certainly the highlight of this series for me too. Since they apparently don’t think he’ll sell well on his own, I’m hoping they put him in a multi-pack of some sort (one that is actually available at retail that is). Him, Palmer (un-helmeted, or with alternate heads), Halsey, and Jul Mdama could make for an interesting 4-pack.
To be honest this is the last straw for me, I did not really the first wave Reach was the best. So this is the end of the line, goodbye halo figures. At least they’re bringing out Assassins Creed figures that look to be good and simultaneously not get cancelled. I really wanted Lasky he was awesome. Unless they some amazing come back this is the end.
Yeah I have to agree, but it’s such a let down to see this collection of incredible figures go out like this, but it’s as if Mcfarlane or whom ever makes the decisions just didn’t give a damn anymore. I’m reading people on the blog saying “It’s because figures like Keyes didn’t sell well, but I assure you if they would have made Keyes, marines and the others with better articulation it would have made a big difference. Personally I was looking forward to buying a lot of the marines .
