One of the things that Halo Mega Bloks fans have cried out for, almost since the start of the Mega Bloks Halo toys line, was a fully-revamped Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Scorpion Tank. While the first-ever wave contained a Halo Mega Bloks Scorpion tank–and we got a slightly tweaked ODST Scorpion later on–a new and improved Halo Mega Bloks Scorpion just never came to a fruition. However, at New York Toy Fair 2015, we got our first look at an all-new Halo 5 Mega Bloks Tank that’s not a new Scorpion, but is definitely the next best thing!
MEGA Brands has really mastered the art of subtle camouflage deco in the past few years, as is evident by the great mossy green blocks with light grey texture deco on them.
Like any good futuristic tank, the Mega Bloks Halo 5 Guardians UNSC Tank has a giant turret in the middle that looks nice and deadly–just the way it should.
The set includes two figures (which doesn’t seem like much for a medium-sized Halo Mega Bloks set, but that’s what was shown, so we’ll have to live with it).
First up is a new Spartan with a mixed armor type, although for all intents and purposes it’s a red Protector Spartan. Red Spartans are the classic go-to, so it’s not a surprise to see a red Spartan packed in with one of the first Halo 5: Guardians sets.
On the Covenant side, we’re getting what looks like the same-old Covenant Storm Elite figure. He even comes in blue again! Personally, I could have done with a different color (or a different figure altogether), but for a generic army-builder Sangheili, this blue Elite Storm figure is fine.
We should start to see this new Mega Bloks Halo 5 UNSC Tank on store shelves in August 2015, so we can look forward to knowing this tank’s name (among other details) before the Halo 5: Guardians video game even makes it out to stores.
How do you like the new Mega Bloks Halo 5 Tank, Halo collectors? Is this new tank a fitting successor to the beloved UNSC Scorpion, or would you have preferred a new classic-style Scorpion tank instead?
It looks like a Scorpion, but it’s not one? Why would they rename it if the design is so similar?
Beats me! To sell toys to people who are already happy with their Scorpion, maybe? Who knows! LOL.
I like the new tank a lot. Whereas the old ones were obnoxiously boxy and a bit old-fashioned looking, the new one is an armoredly sleek, futuristic war machine, which is what it should be. Also JangBricks has noted that most of the problems with the last two Scorpions have been alleviated here. Not to mention, the set is called “Scorpion’s Sting”, so I think this is, in fact, the next generation of the Scorpion we know and love.
I saw a picture of it coming with a gray Recruit. Can you confirm he does or doesn’t come in this set?
I was told the grey Recruit is not included.
Turns out the grey Recruit was a placeholder for Spartan Edward Buck (formerly Gunnery Sergeant Buck of ODST fame) who is in fact included in the set and was one of the big selling points for me (In case you can’t tell, he’s kind of my favorite Halo character.).
Do note that this is the first set with an elite that uses the new articulation!
New Elite Articulation?!?!?!?!
I guess my main question is why would Mattel keep you and other bloggers from getting massive amounts of pictures and information about the 2015 Halo line. What you do is nothing short of great FREE advertisement. Instead I am having more anxiety not really knowing what is coming in the summer and fall, than when I know, and have to figure out how to spend my money
Wait, does anybody else notice the olive storm elite in the background?
articulation for the covenant YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
