NYCC 2013 Halo Toys & Figures News (Or the Lack Thereof)

It’s been a little quiet here at Halo Toy News this last week, as I spent the past week preparing for, going to, and reporting from New York Comic Con 2013 for my various blogs. But as you may have noticed, I haven’t exactly been posting truckloads of Halo figures news and photos from the event. There’s a good reason for that, and it’s unfortunately exactly what you think: there were no new Halo toys or Collectibles shown by any company at NYCC 2013…

Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Mammoth Display at NYCC 2013

Any way you slice it, the 2013 New York Comic Con was an immensely disappointing for Halo fans. There was no Halo panel of any kind, no Todd McFarlane or McFarlane Toys presence, and no upcoming Halo video games to try out on the floor. In short, this NYCC was a total bust for Halo fans.

MEGA Brands rarely disappoints me at conventions, but the 2013 NYCC was unquestionably unimpressive from a Halo standpoint. While the spotlight shined brightly on the new Call of Duty Mega Bloks sets and figures, the Halo Mega Bloks NYCC 2013 display seemed like an afterthought.

Even though we have heard zippo announcements thus far regarding the 2014 Halo Mega Bloks sets, I was optimistic we’d see a set or two sneak peeked at New York Comic Con like the UNSC Cryo Bay and UNSC Mantis Mega Bloks sets were last year. There weren’t any new sets unveiled, unfortunately. The only item not readily available everywhere for months already was the UNSC Mammoth set, which looks really phenomenal in person. Otherwise, the only sets displayed were the commonly available Fall 2013 Halo Mega Bloks sets like the Pelican and the Night Ops Warthog.

Halo 4 Kotobukiya Promotional Poster from NYCC 2013Things weren’t much better on the other fronts for Halo Collectibles either. Kotobukiya displayed the same placard that they did at SDCC 2013, declaring that Kotobukiya Halo statues would be coming in fall 2014–no new prototypes or concept art whatsoever.

NYCC 2013 Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Series 1 Figures Display Master Chief & Spartan WarriorLast year at New York Comic Con 2012, Square-Enix displayed Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Series 1 and Series 2, and it’s at that show that I fell in love with Play Arts Kai figures. This year at NYCC, Square-Enix have Halo the ol’ middle finger, as not only did Square-Enix not show any new Halo 4 Play Arts Kai action figures, but they actually only displayed the nearly year-old Play Arts Kai Halo 4 Master Chief and Spartan Warrior figures, skipping over the amazing, more recently-released Sarah Palmer and Spartan Soldier figures entirely! Thanks a lot, Square-Enix.

What do you think, Halo fans? Are you disappointed by the complete and utter lack of new Halo products at NYCC 2013, or is this dearth of news along the lines of what you were expecting?

NYCC 2013 Halo Toys & Figures News (Or the Lack Thereof) — 13 Comments

  1. NYCC wasn’t all that exciting in-general this year, so it’s not all that surprising there wasn’t really anything shown off for Halo. It’s also still one of the smaller cons.

    • With 120,000+ attendees, I don’t know that NYCC can be considered “small” anymore. Other than SDCC, what’s bigger?

  2. I don’t have a problem with Mega Bloks not having anything new at NYCC. First, they have a new line that they have to push. Also, they have put out so much this year, that it is understandable if they have nothing new, for Halo, in early October. As a matter of fact, at one point, they had new toy news coming out daily. (OK. That’s an exaggeration, but it did kind of seem like it) I expect that they will let us know about what we’ll have to look forward to in the spring, sometime in December.

As far as McFarlane Toys… are you really surprised?

    • To be honest, I’m more bothered by Square Enix and Kotobukiya not showing anything than anyone else. Kotobukiya showed prototypes and designs up through November 2014 for some of their lines, but had nada to show Halo fans. I’m getting a bit concerned that they’re going to bow out on Halo altogether, with Halo being on a downswing right now.

Square-Enix not showing anything for Halo 4 Play Arts Kai is another real blow. You would think they would AT LEAST want to repaint the Spartan Warrior and Spartan Soldier and get some money back from the molds they created, but they seem totally disinterested in Halo now as well.

As for MEGA Brands–Typically, we have new Halo Mega Bloks sets for the spring on the shelves by January. I don’t know that that’s going to happen next year, which is rather disappointing, but I can live with it.

  3. I can’t believe they have Call of Duty Mega Bloks now. I’m not really surprised that there were no new Halo Mega Bloks. I think by this point they have done nearly every vehicle. The only ones left that I can think of are: Spirit, Broadsword, Longsword, and Scarab.

  4. I wasn’t expecting anything from Mega Brands. I’ve had plenty of Halo Mega Bloks to fill me up this year and I’m still working on my collection. I expect Halo 5 will keep them alive.

On another note, has anybody ordered and recieved a box of 48 series 7 figures? I ordered one WAY back and messaged BT4BB somewhat recently and they notified me that they aren’t stocked yet.

  5. It’s not too surprising that nothing new was revealed at NYCC. They didn’t reveal anything at SDCC either, and SDCC is a larger show. The only thing they had at SDCC was that near life-size Promethean. No actual product other than the giveaways.

Besides, MB was launching their Call of Duty line which until a couple of weeks ago nobody even knew about. They also revealed a couple of zombie sets for that line.

Regarding upcoming MB Halo product, I do wonder when the next wave of stuff will be revealed. Will anything else come out before February’s Toy Fair?

  6. Is anyone else worried that the new Call of Duty line is going to become MB’s new focus, such that the Halo line takes a back seat? It would be a smart business decision for them. They’re already recycling molds and figures for TRU exclusives, and with 343 taking over Halo there might be little reason to make many more sets than Halo 4 ones.

I hope I’m wrong. I would still like to see a game-accurate Banshee, not the now very old Halo Wars design (as these stopped being a Halo Wars line a long time ago), as well as a redesigned, cheap Ghost set we can army build with (maybe the same price point as the 2012 Shade Turret) and I would kill for a Longsword!

    • Not really. Halo is Halo, and the Have such a Huge Fan base by now that Dropping Halo For “CoD” would be the worst decision that a Company could make.

Because we all Know Halo has a More Diverse Universe and Characters then CoD

And we have a Better game.
