I had the privilege of visiting the MEGA Brands showroom at the New York Toy Fair 2014 yesterday to see the Halo Mega Bloks Summer 2014/Fall 2014 lineup of products. When it comes to Halo, MEGA Brands knows what I like–and that’s Halo Wars. So when I entered the Mega Bloks Halo showroom, the first item to catch my eye (other than the jaw-dropping, gigantic Halo Mega Bloks Signature Series Covenant Scarab that I’ll discuss later) was a long-lost vehicle I never expected to see produced. Coming in Summer 2014–Halo Mega Bloks Flame Warthog!
One of the incentives to pre-order the legendary and beloved XBox 360 Halo Wars video game was an exclusive Flame Warthog skin. It didn’t have any true effect on your UNSC Warthog units in-game, but it definitely made them look blazing hot.
Halo Wars is my favorite XBox 360 game (Halo or otherwise), and I’ve been cruising around in-game with UNSC Flame Warthogs for years. I’ve always wanted a Flame Warthog toy, but thought that that ship had sailed years ago. Luckily, MEGA Brands thought otherwise! As part of the Summer 2014 Halo Mega Bloks series, MEGA Brands is releasing the first-ever Flame Warthog vehicle set.
The new Flaming Warthog Mega Bloks vehicle will utilize the superior design of the Mega Bloks Halo 4 Warthog vehicle, which I first reviewed in the Halo Mega Bloks Warthog Resistance 97011 set in 2012. That Warthog build still holds up, so I have no problem with seeing a redeco of it as the Flame Warthog.
The Flame Warthog Halo Mega Bloks set will include two new-style super-articulated Spartan action figures: a gold/orange GUNGNIR Spartan and a crimson red Spartan GUNGNIR. The red Spartan has a yellow stripe on his helmet as customized armor. While the prototype box for the Mega Bloks Halo Wars Flame Warthog refers to the Spartans as wearing “GRUNGNIR” armor, I believe that’s a type-o that’ will be fixed for the final release.
Among other weapons, a hotly-demanded Target Locator weapon will be included with this set, something plenty of Halo fans have been waiting for. The weathering on the Flame Warthog’s Machine Gun Turret is also a very nice touch.
The Halo Mega Bloks Flame Warthog set is scheduled to be released in Summer 2014, in approximately July/August 2014. I’ll be picking up the set for a full review and photography as soon as it ships out, and you can ‘Like’ Halo Toy News on Facebook to have future Halo news, reviews and photos sent straight to your Facebook Newsfeed. I’ll also be featuring the rest of the Halo Mega Bloks Summer/Fall 2014 assortment shown at Toy Fair 2014 throughout the week.
What do you think of the Mega Bloks Halo Wars Flame Warthog, Halo collectors? Are you like me and were secretly dying for this Warthog iteration, or is this a Warthog Mega Bloks set you can live without?
Finally you’re uploading the new Mega Bloks stuff!
Looking forward to the new figs– BUT WHAT AM I GONNA DO WITH MY UNDER-ARTICULATED FIGS!?!?!?!
same here I was sad when the new grunt sculpts came out my old grunts are midgets….
Can you tell us what set that ODST is a part of that’s in the back of one of the pictures?????
The ODST is from the UNSC Wombat set
Not just any ODST – that’s The Rookie from Halo 3:ODST.
Yeah, I won’t be getting this or the RC mantis and I might get a broadsword for it’s figures and use the bloks for custom stuff. I plan on compensating though by getting several copies of most of the other sets! The NMPD squad car is beautiful, as is the wombat and Halo Wars elephant. And four sets of the Flood Siege would give enough walls to make a whole room!
what do they mean by super poseable? are they actually any different?
Yes, they are different. They have th Call of Duty articulation.
oh ok, i havent seen any of them in person, is the cod articulation better?
and will they still be in scale with previous figures? from what i saw the cod figures looked a tiny bit bigger (could just be the photos i saw)
No, the figures are in the same size. But the CoD articulation is a little bit better for posing the figures.
Actually, the CoD figures are a bit taller than the Halo ones. But definitely more poseable.
Although the CoD ones are taller, the new-articulated Halo ones will be in the same size of the old ones.
thank you both for the replies.
now that i know what they are it sounds awesome.
will all future figures be done iwth the super poseable features?
I hope so… we need to wait and see.
I’m really looking forward to getting this set
I am happy to see anew warthog but I hope the flame detail is a sticker because I think it looks a little stupid also why not put a flamethrower on a flamehog???
Because it is based on the Halo Wars flame decal, which only 3 variants were made, the flatbed, the Normal MG hog (this set) and the Gausshog. and Mega never does stickers anymore, so if you don’t like it, don’t buy it.
This is a must for me.
Sorry bud. It looks printed to me. Look closely at the curve of the hood. Stickers arnt that good.
How much? I got $16.99
24.99
Does anybody else notice the combination of all the previous designs of a Warthog? Because i certainly do
Mainly halo 4 design with reach flood lights and the tailgate is the same as the first few warthogs. i like this, i really like this
Got Halo Wars too late, never had a chance to get the flame hog in-game… But totally getting this for the awesome flame decals!!!
