Toy Fair 2014: McFarlane Halo XBox One Master Chief Figure!

It was with a modicum of dread that I approached the McFarlane Toys booth at the New York Toy Fair 2014 today, as I was downright certain that my fears concerning the death of the McFarlane Toys Halo action figure line would be confirmed at the show. To my surprise–and delight–that turns out to not be the case at all! Alongside a bunch of old Halo 4 action figures in the display case were two brand new, never-before-seen Halo action figure, including the Halo XBox One Master Chief figure!

Toy Fair 2014 McFarlane Halo XBox One Master Chief FigureIf there was ever going to be any hope for the McFarlane Halo line of action figures, it was going to come to light at the 2014 Toy Fair today. Thankfully, it did, and hope for 6″ Halo action figure collectors is still alive!

McFarlane Toys Halo 5 Master Chief Action Figure in Cloak Toy Fair 2014 The first–and more exciting–of the two new Halo action figures McFarlane Toys revealed today is the Halo XBox One Master Chief figure! Depicted in his EPIC cloak from the Halo XBox One trailer reveal at E3 2013, this is definitely the best version of Master Chief that McFarlane Toys could have shown off to get fans excited about a new version of the main character in the Halo saga.

The cloak looks rather bulky in photos, but in-person I thought it looked excellent. I think you’ll all be really happy with the level of style and detail of the Master Chief’s cloak.

2014 Toy Fair XBox One Halo Master Chief McFarlane Figure in Robes CloakThe “Halo 5” Master Chief figure includes a Forerunner Boltshot gun, an all-new release for McFarlane Halo figures. It’s hard to believe, but we really never got a Halo 4 Boltshot with a figure in the Halo 4 McFarlane line. With McFarlane Halo 4 almost certainly cancelled now, I’m grateful we’ll finally be getting a Boltshot with this Master Chief!

Halo 2 Master Chief Figure McFarlane Toys 2014 New York Toy FairThe other figure on display is a Halo 2 Master Chief action figure. This figure is in the larger scale that began the McFarlane Halo Reach figures, and includes a Rocket Launcher and what appears to be an Assault Rifle. As there was no Assault Rifle in Halo 2, I assume this will be replaced with a Battle Rifle for production.

New York Toy Fair 2014 Halo 2 Master Chief McFarlane ToysI consider this Master Chief Halo 2 McFarlane figure as further evidence that there will in fact be a Halo 2 Anniversary Edition video game released in the near future, regardless of what Microsoft says to the contrary.

  1. This absolutely made my night! The new MC looks fantastic, and I can see the level of detail in the cloak is phenomenal! I’m glad we got this sliver of hope, I thought it was all over…

    And concerning the Halo 2 chief, isn’t that the same size/ figure as the Halo 2 chief in the anniversary evolution pack? Besides, even the dual trigger finger hands for SMGS are still on this one (Is it a rerelease?). I don’t find this new Halo 2 figure exciting:(

    And I don’t know about the Halo 2 anniversary you’re suggesting- to me that seems like a step backwards from their new successful trilogy. Besides, if this was a prequel for a Halo 2 Anni, the armor would be slightly updated/different, no? Sadly, there’s nothing new about the Halo 2 MC besides the paintjob right now. I hope that changes

    • Paul–I’ll ask at the booth tomorrow. The McFarlane reps were very busy and I couldn’t get anyone’s attention, but I’ll do my best to find out if the Halo 2 Master Chief is new. I don’t have the original Halo 2 Chief with me in New York (obviously), so he looked new to me.

      • Oh there’s a booth to ask around? Wow now I’m insanely jealous haha. I’m sure you may have dozens of questions of your own, can’t wait to hear what they say if you’ll be willing to share that experience tomorrow. Goodluck!

        I have the MC that we’re comparing it too in my hand right now, he’s on my desk with all the other MCs. I really don’t see any differences at all and I’m pretty observant (art student+ built an MC suit myself) but I hope I’m wrong. 🙂 Have fun at the fair tomorrow

  2. I wonder why Halo 2 Master Chief has dual SMGs, a Rocket Launcher, and a AR. I thought you could only hold 2 weapons at a time? Unless you have a primary weapon and dual secondary weapons.

  3. Hey if you get the chance, can you ask if there are any news on them making anymore Halo 4 figures?
    By the way that Halo 5 chief looks promising, but I’m not excited for that Halo 2 chief :/

  5. It would be absolutely spectacular if under chiefs cloak we had new and improved hip articulation. I think I would cry, lol. Maybe ask them why they chose to do the simple ball joint in halo 4? Was it just cause it looks clean?

  6. So the series is due out in July and they only have 2 figures to show? I’m still not gonna hold my breath after all the cancelations that happened over the last year and this presentation just looks like it holds less promise of fruition than the times before. I still don’t see ernest commitment to the license by Todd here.

  9. I hope they make a full line for Halo 5. Halo 4 series could’ve been huge because they had so much possibility with all the armor styles but they just stopped it 🙁

Well the new MC looks worthwhile with that cape and even if it restricts most of the articulation it’s a great little display piece and it’s nice to know that even though McFarlane doesn’t have alot to show for their standard HALO line, atleast they haven’t abandoned it completely which is great to hear.
    The H2 MC I’m not bothered with. I mean it’s always great when you get your first Rocket Launcher from these HALO figs but afterwards not so much. It’s just like a rehash really.
    Also to note, I doubt McFarlane would just release 2 figures and class it as the whole ‘assortment’. I doubt it’ll be any figures from H4 (as the MC is from the proposed new game) but it may be like an anniversary series with a bunch of other characters from across the HALO universe that will be revealed later.
    All in all, kinda bummed not to see any more H4 stuff, really wanted those Elites 🙁 but….new figs ahead nonetheless :3

  13. Oh another thing, please please please ask them if you still can what about the GIANT 12 inch MASTER CHIEF figure we saw before on display!!! I clearly remember it and all it’s details. I wanna buy that thing!

  15. I hope since there doing a Halo 2 master chief they next decide to do other Halo 2 figures like Miranda Keyes, Lord Hood, the Honor guards, and the 3 Prophet leaders. They could make them into box sets! I would definetely pick those up. But honestly I think these figures are a test to see if Halo figures are still worth making which in my opinion they are so heres hoping!

      How abut a Spec-Ops 2 pack and a Heretic 2-pack with the Elite and Grunt versions of each.
      OR even an arbiter 3 pack, Yellow/Gold Zealot, Silver H2 Arbiter and Gold H3 Arbiter. They did a Master Chief evolution pack so why not Arbiter.
